Hey Forum Folks,

So today I was pumping gas and a drive by snuck into my passenger side door and grabbed my computer bag off the seat as I was placing my card in the pump reader. I didn’t feel the car door open/close from the other side of the car, didn’t hear it either due to another car in the station blasting loud music.

Anyway, I’ve always (for every previous car I’ve owned) locked my car once getting out for gas. Just a safety and paranoid thing… for this sole reason! But because I was next to the car with my key fob, the doors still unlocked for the intruder.

Does anyone know how to turn off the proximity sensor for the key fob to prevent such random intrusion? I’d like to know that when I lock the car, wether I’m standing next to it or not, that it’s fully locked until I press unlock on the fob.

That's not how intelligent access works. The fob has to be within 3 ft of the sensor in a door to arm it. In other words, the passenger door will not unlock because the fob has armed the sensor in the driver's door. The fob has to be within 3 ft of the passenger door to arm the door's sensor. If you don't believe me have someone try to open the passenger door while you stand next to the driver's door with the fob. If your system doesn't work like this then you should take it in for service. This is a safety issue for the very situation you described.

As Michigunman said, you can configure intelligent access to unlock all the doors or just the driver's door when you trigger the sensor in the driver's door, but no matter how the system is configured, if you trigger the sensor in the passenger door all the doors will unlock.

I will be doing this right away as soon as I get my BS. Last thing I want is the passenger door just opening because the car is off and I'm just sitting in the driver seat with the doors locked and the keyfob is in my pocket.

It doesn't work that way. See my post above. Neither of the door sensors are armed if the fob is inside the vehicle. The fob must be outside the vehicle within 3 ft of a door to arm its sensor. You cannot arm the sensor in the passenger door by standing next to driver's door. The configuration options for Intelligent Access are unlock all doors, or driver's door only when the driver's door sensor is triggered. No matter how you configure the driver's door options, when you trigger the passenger door sensor all doors will unlock.

Looks like I’m going to have to take it in to get serviced. No matter where I stand around the car, after locking, other doors still open. And I tried the steps per @Michigunman‘s post… didn’t work

The only “hard” lock that I’ve been able to initiate is the one via the FordPass App. Other than that, yes the car locks, but my key can’t be anywhere near it if I want it to remain locked.

And just to clarify, when I mean “hard” lock - I mean that I can lock my car via the App, and the Intelligent Access sensor disarms.

That's not right. Are you sure the doors are locking? When you trigger the Intelligent Access sensor you should hear all the doors unlocking. If you put your hand on the door handle and you don't hear the locks then the doors were not locked.

Get out of the car and press the lock button on your fob twice. The horn sounds when the vehicle is locked. Try to open a rear door; they do not have sensors and should NOT open until you have unlocked either of the front doors using the door sensor (depending on Intelligent Access mode--see below). If the rear door opens then the car was not locked. If the rear door does NOT open the car is locked. Once you know for certain the car is locked do this:
  1. Lock the car and leave the fob away from the car.
  2. Try to open all the doors; they should not open.
  3. Bring the fob near the driver's door to arm the sensor, but do not trigger it--leave your hand away from the handle.
  4. Try to open the rear door; it should not open.
  5. With the doors still locked and the fob still near the driver's door (you can place it on the roof above the door) try to open the front passenger door; it should not open. If the passenger door sensor is
You can change the Intelligent Access mode (all doors unlock or driver's door only unlock) by simultaneously pressing both the lock and unlock buttons on your fob for two seconds. The mode change is complete when the turn signals flash twice.

That's not right either. The intelligent access sensor function should not be affected by the locking method. It sounds like there is definitely something amiss with the locking/unlocking system in your car.

I’ve tried all the scenarios you went through above, it’s like I have a super FOB that bypasses all security. The car does lock, and I’ve made it a custom to die the double tap because I like hearing the horn for added reassurance. I’ve locked it and left my car in my house, gone back out and the doors are fully locked.

But then I’ll go get the key, and without pressing anything on the fob, I can hear all the doors unlock while I approach the vehicle. There have even been times where I’ll be standing by my car at work and I hear the locks continuously activate and deactivate whilst not touching the fob or car.

Something is definitely not working correctly. So all this said and done, to anyone reading this, make sure you’re checking your intelligent access and security settings. Crappy way to loose $3k of personal belongings

That sounds like the fob is on the fritz. I'd definitely involve the dealer for correction.
