I had the Gen 1 engine which did not have many of the improvements of the later ones, such as port injection. If a catch can doesn't do any good, then why is Ford putting factory versions on their engines? My 23 Bronco Sport has a Ford Catch can/ Separator.
Ford didn't add port injection to the 3.5L EcoBoost to prevent valve contamination. The second generation 3.5L increased power output, and therefore required more fuel when under high power demand. Further, the 2011 3.5L EcoBoost was equipped from the factory with an air/oil separator, much like the one installed on the engine in your Bronco Sport.

I'm not arguing that a device to limit oil in crankcase vapors isn't beneficial, I'm arguing that one isn't necessary to prevent valve contamination in Ford EcoBoost engines, which is the primary reason most people install them on street cars. Given the dearth of widespread valve contamination reports with Ford's EcoBoost engines, I contend the strategies employed by Ford's engine designers--OEM air/oil separators, changes to valve and fuel injection timing, etc.--seem to be working satisfactorily to mitigate valve contamination issues.
