Every 3rd of 4th time I use my phone's navigation on my Bronco Sport BOTH map apps kick off at the same time, so I am hearing duplicate and sometimes conflicting instructions. I have no idea how I am managing to do this...does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks -

I would check the settings on your phone. You should be able to specify which app is the default.

Thanks, Mark! It looks like it's tricky to use Google Maps from an iPhone, for no good reason. I think Apple and Google had a dispute about maps a few years back.

iPhone: The last time I checked, you cannot make Google Maps your default navigation app. When you click on an address like in a Contact, etc., the iPhone defaults to using Apple Maps. It is just how it works. Other than by jailbreaking your iPhone to change that behavior.

If you use Gmail, you can use Google Maps as the default iPhone navigator such that when you tap a map link in Gmail, it automatically opens in Google Maps. (See https://www.androidpolice.com/make-google-maps-app-default-iphone/).

It is very easy to bring up both Apple Maps and Google Maps (or another navigation App that is on the iPhone) and get exactly the case you are having with both Maps providing voice navigation guidance. In this case you have voice guidance enabled on both Apple Maps and on Google Maps.

Many ways that can happen. One way is in your contacts you click on an address .. Apple Maps will launch if not already running. Then you bring up Google Maps and start a navigation. Now you have both navigation Maps running and both providing voice guidance.

Some people intentionally run both map Apps simultaneously with navigation voice guidance enabled on only one of the navigation Apps.

There were other possible workaround to be able to launch Google Maps in place of where Apple Maps would run by default — funny that you can Google those other ways or ask Siri. I didn’t provide those other options but they are easy enough to search for.
