I've had adaptive cruise control on my last 2 vehicles and I love it for traveling.
I just had a situation on my last trip that made me concerned. I was in pretty heavy interstate traffic. The car ahead of me slowed down quickly, and my adaptive cruise reacted quickly. It slowed me down with no problem. I was watching the car behind me to see if he reacted accordingly. Thank God he did. The concern or question I have is about the brake lights. When adaptive cruise slows you down or even stops you, does it also activate the brake lights to let the drivers behind you know? This could lead to you being rear-ended if the brake lights don't activate.

@Mrmike, as others have said, yes. And one way I decided to test this was let it stop as I approached a stopped car (my wife LOL) and I kept my foot hovering over the brake. I felt the brake depressing and I could see in the rear view mirror the break lights (it was night).

So I don’t know if I should compliment you on a great question or warn you that you are doomed to be mired in stupidity for thinking like me! :)

I don't use adaptive cruise control in heavy traffic. I don't trust it enough to react in a safe manner.
In other condition I use it.
I was on adaptive cruise control on a 2 lane road when the truck in front of me was cut off and locked up their brakes. My BS-BL stopped BEFORE I could react. My foot is usually just touching the brake pedal, but the BS beat me to it. Gotta love this car!
