I think it depends on your driving style. Sporty drivers might want to turn it off. During my first 500 km, a got a red warning twice, once in a turn under construction with lots of traffic cones, the other time it happened when a car ahead of me slammed the brakes and the red screen appeared. In neither case did I experience any braking.
That’s how I set mine up, a warning light but no action.

IIHS tested how the auto emergency braking systems from several different manufacturers reacted to pedestrians in 2019. You can view the video here:

wow, so if you gonna walk in front of a car, please look at the car brand before you take a step.....

or..you can say some of the system is REALLY smart..it can tell if it is a fake kid then a real one

I always wanted to test this with a big box before. I guess a mannequin maybe better.

I can confirm the Audi system is pretty sensitive. Once I was parallel parking along a very tall curb over 12". it was almost a short wall. the car slammed on the brake while I was backing up before I had a chance to turn the steering wheel full left.

and a friend with an Outback system slammed the brake when the car was coming down a very steep driveway. I assume the system sees the crossing street as a "wall".

considering that....must turn it off when you are off-roading.

I came across one post that said a car-sized mockup would be needed to test auto-braking however that doesn't agree with Ford specifications that the vehicle should stop for a pedestrian.

I asked my dealer to demonstrate auto-braking, unbelievable they suggested I test this in real driving conditions by holding off on braking when approaching a car from behind. I am not going to risk an accident trying this.

The point is that during my first 500 km my badlands never once applied the brakes, even when I tempted the system. I placed a big cardboard box in a parking lot and my BS drove right over it. Since they are using cameras and radar, the box should have been detected.

I would feel a lot better if my autobraking could be demonstrated with an actual test.

How do I do this or how do I convince my dealer to do it for me?

Any and all ideas are welcome,
thanks,
H
It works at least on my badlands. You'll feel the breaking once the BS feels like your about to crash. The warning sounds and if you don't break in time the BS does it for you. I had a biker pass in front of me and the auto breaking system kicked in b4 I applied the breaks. Great feature ? ?
