I need a set of crossbars for my 2023 Big Bend. Are there any bars that can be extended when needed for wide loads? I carry canoes on the roof. I would like to be able to extend the crossbars when needed to carry two canoes side-by-side on the bars. Does anyone make a set of crossbars that extend out to 72-ish inches but retract when not in use?

I made my own crossbars to carry a canoe. I used aluminum tubing with oak dowels inside to prevent buckling. I attach it to the rails with U-bolts. I don't leave it on the vehicle when I'm not hauling a canoe. You can make the crossbars as long as you need.

I saw this idea on the internet. I took two 8" pieces of 1" nylon strap, folded them in half and put a grommet through the loose ends. I bolted the grommet down under the hood and left the loop sticking above the hood when closed. That way I have a place to tie the canoe in front that doesn't rub on the front of the hood. Works great. When not using them, just fold them under the hood.
