Just got done with a 2 week 3,000-mile trip Nronco sport performed great.... except. After I just got through the rocky mountains I pulled into the hotel. No issues at all. handled the mountain climbs and curves with ease. I parked and the next morning, I got in to continue my journey and was actually bragging about the way the 2.0 L handled the mountain and boom warning light on, reduced power. I pulled over, turned the car off, tried calling a few Ford dealers (none could look at it for at least 2 weeks?), and after about 10 minutes I got back in and all was fine, no warning light, full power. Drove it another 700 miles home without any issues, but now I am a little nervous. Has anyone seen this issue, any explanation? Should I worry? Was it just a small glitch? I plan on taking it in but not sure they will be able to do anything since no warning lights and running great currently,I do have proof on the Ford pass app that the warning light came on.

You’re referring to the yellow wrench icon right? Not on the BS, but the explorer I had this would happen on some occasions. Typically when I would put my foot to the floor to really use the turbo (2.3). The first time the dealer just cleaned a sensor & put it back, the second time, they told me it likely hadn’t stored a code & they couldn’t really tell anything unless it was on when I brought it in. I stopped worrying about it after that, just pulled over, shut the car off & got back in & kept driving the 3rd time it happened. So definitely take it in & see what they say, but I wouldn’t worry about it in the meantime based on my experience, unless it actually lit & stayed in.

Yes exactly the yellow wrench. Thanks so much for the help. I will take it in.

Outerbanks with a 2.0L?

Should I worry? Was it just a small glitch?
There are safeguards built in to the powertrain control module (PCM) to protect your engine from just about any stupid owner trick you can think (assuming the code is unmodified), so no, I wouldn't worry about driving it. Clearly there was a glitch of some kind, and as Mike (@MJE) suggests, you should take it in and have it checked. At the very least, you want this kind of issue recorded in your vehicle's service history in case it becomes something more serious down the road.

I had same error on 22 BS badlands.
The first message was “ gear selected will engage at low speed” which was the message associated with the wrench. Also had engine light and note to check it ASAP. This all occurred with the car in parked position, morning start but would not budge when in D or R. E
sinde the car has been at dealer waiting to diagnose the cause of the eoblem(which is required before Ford will cover under warranty) I have received more in depth werror messages on my Ford Pas app.
three cases of check engine error-
1) power train control system detected the gear position. Selected on the selector does not match the gear achieved. By the transmission..
2) powertrain control system detected one of the transmission clutches did not apply within expected time. Some transmission gears may not be available resulting in delayed or harsh shifts additional information may be provided..
3) powertrain control system detected one of the transmission shift solenoids is not responding as expected or is stuck in the off position.
after being one week at a dealer that lacked transmission expertise and based on my description of the initial problem should not have even been agreeable to review based on the initial
Warnings, it was towed to another dealer who were far busier than the first dealer, but they were straight up about it and indicated that when they did dig into the transmission and found the faulty part, and if it were a B part that is hard to come by, which is common, tgat they would pull one from on their lot and install it, and replace it with the new part when it arrived.
When they finally did get around to testing it, the error codes were many and apparently they contacted Ford about everything and because the engine only has 16k mikes on it, and because I diagnosis could be time consuming and involve multiple parts of the transmission. They decided to just replace the transmission.
That will be a couple of weeks to receive and install.
The first dealership handled everything wrong, held my car I guess thinking maybe they could figure out how to address the stillcodes, gave me no loaner vehicle, despite them actually having a couple they could provide.
they failed miserably at reflecting ttrust works hard to instilled manager verifying he had a couple of loaner cars h in their buyers.
They crossed lines when they called roadside assistance and stated that I had requested MY car be towed to the other dealer, and rather than receive a call from the service manager to set me up with a loaner as he stated two hours earlier, I get a call from the towing company verifying they would see me shortly to pick up the vehicle, yet my vehicle was at dealer 1 and I was stranded at home.
The second dealer was just the opposite, they had a waiting list for a loaner they put me on. In that time the decision was made to get a new tranny.
We’ll see what the future holds.
Good luck to you that weird things don’t happen again.
to many ghosts in the computer chips. The codes that show in dashboard notifications and Ford Pass are s selecting from a bunch of other codes we don’t see
