Hi all - I added the tow package to my order (22 BS OB arriving in a few weeks) and this will be my first time having it. I noticed that its class II with the 1.25" receiver but the internet has shown me that its much more common to see class III products with 2" receivers. I was planning to just get an adapter so I can use class III products since they seem easier to come by and I have my eye on this one cargo basket that can fold down its sides and fold up vertically when not in use.

I sometimes travel with large collapsed wire dog crates (42x28) so it seems like I could easily strap it to the basket when the sides are folded down making the product dual purpose (basket for camping, platform for traveling with a crate). Other than just making sure I stick with the 3,500lb max weight limit, anything I should be aware of? Any recommendations? Thanks!

I don't have the tow package on mine, but I am 99 percent sure the factory hitch is a 2" reciever. The hitch itself is Class III but the vehicle itself limits it to class II.

The receiver is 2" on all Bronco Sports equipped with the tow package.

As other discussions here have pointed out, don't think of Class II and Class III as defined by the receiver size. The tow setup on the Bronco Sport is indeed Class II, but that's because of payload and tow ratings. The 2" receiver and tow bar itself are most certainly Class III capable, they just can't call it such because the compounded ratings of the vehicle don't allow it. People often confuse receiver size and type with towing class. 2" receiver is just the minimum size requirement for the receiver to meet Class III spec, but having a 2" receiver does not automatically make your vehicle Class III.
