It’s a radar, so material is mostly irrelevant in that reflectivity and absorption are the critical factors, with angle of incidence also playing a part. Without knowing the frequency or pulse width, it’s hard to estimate the minimum detection threshold.
TBH, the OM wouldn’t have super detailed explanations of radar theory, so they will take it down to the simplest (legally defendable) description. 99% of folks would rightfully take it at face value.
That's a likely explanation. I'd imagine the beam pattern is relatively narrow, focused on probably no more than 10-15 degrees off center, if that. Another consideration is that it likely isn't aimed upwards to any significant degree, so it probably would only see legs at that range, and the RCS is just too small and outside the detection threshold.Honest self-awareness is the beginning of wisdom
You do raise an interesting idea - my Collision system did not engage when I hit a deer last October. Am I right in assuming that is because the deer was "off the radar" on my left and moved into the radar's field of view too rapidly for the system to identify the risk and start the CAS? It was about one second from me seeing it to impact.
