So, for the past two weeks, I’ve had this mild, but incredibly annoying clunking sound coming from the rear.
I thought maybe it was my tire inflator rattling, I’ve got a Milwaukee inflator that I keep tucked up close to the rear seat back, so I removed that. Noise persisted. So I ended up taking the few things in the vehicle out that I thought could be possible culprits. Noise was still there.
Last night, I took my vehicle down to get a quick wash, and when I came home, I grabbed a microfiber towel to clean the inside of the rear window off, as I always do, and when I popped the rear window open, I heard the noise.
Turned out to be the upper hinge bracket that’s bolted to the vehicle was quite loose. Grabbed my torx plus socket and I tightened it a full rotation before I could apply any torque to it, and the rattling went away.
Took it for a ride this morning just to confirm, and that was the problem.
My Bronco has 8,500 miles on it. Seems weird to me that something like that could have loosened up, but something to just keep in mind!
