I did the change today. I'm still sore from trying to twist the stupid filter off. I don't have a cap wrench and I should really just go get one. No room for a regular filter wrench to operate. I finally got it with the strap wrench.
These tools work perfectly. It connects to a ratchet allowing use of an extension. The jaws are spring loaded closed, and close tighter the harder you turn the wrench.

This beats using rags to catch drips or sticking something in the way to get runoff.
I will try to use it again, possibly in a year (I don't put a lot of miles down I'm only at 37k). Could be something that is better with experience.
Thanks for the user report. I'm going to stick with my puncture and baggie approach for now. I loosen the filter with the filter tool, punch a couple of holes in it, and let it drain a bit. There will still be oil between the filter and the filter mount, so you can't completely drain the oil. To catch the rest I slide a quart-size baggie around the filter and over the filter mount before spinning the filter off completely. With a bit of care you can catch all the remaining oil remaining in the baggie.
