Hey guys, new forum member but wanted to pass along some info on a recent issue on my wife’s bronco sport. She bought a MY22 Big Bend new, it now had 80,000 miles. I did an oil change a couple thousand miles ago, and on the way home from a trip, low oil pressure light flashes on during freeway merging acceleration , key cycle makes a difference, then come back on. Had plenty of oil and good color. Had a local mechanic look at it, we replaced oil pressure sensor, but issue persisted and oil pressure was gradually dropping, lowest readings of 17-20 psi. Swapped oil filters, and still the issue persisted. Had it towed to the ford dealer due to concerns of wrecking the engine. They tried another oil filter (OEM of course) new oil pressure sensor, and oil pressure selonoid. Turns out it was the variable oil pump. So $3100 later, engine is still in good shape (they inspected the cylinders), but curious if anyone has had issues with bad oil pumps? Otherwise, FYI, hopefully this can save someone some diagnostic time.
