just remind him that Subaru’s are a great car for middle aged lesbians. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. Did his come with Birkenstocks?
That's too funny! My son in law is a Master mechanic for Suburu, he has a souped up pocket rocket Subaru, daughter has a Forester. Both say they would buy a new Kia in a heartbeat, neither likes Fords. I've been addicted to Birkies for over 45 years, and would NOT buy a Subaru - why? They are BORRRING. And I like to be UP so I can see better, and I'm NOT a lesbian. I do live in Oakland, and yes, too many station wagons here for sure.

The Brat I had was fun, till a Buick ran a light, tagged the right rear corner and spun me like a top!

BS Badlands with Sasquatch.
He'll have the advantage with ground clearance. You're tires are a little taller though I think. His will be 225/60-R17. Unless he upgrades.

I have a Forester now, while waiting for a BS Badlands with Sasquatch package to eventually arrive, with some mods like a 1.5 inch lift, skid plates, better tires, and heavy duty springs). From what I can tell, they'll be pretty close. He might have an advantage in some terrain like open desert or ice and snow that isn't too deep. The X-Mode on his Forester will help prevent a lot of wheel spin too, not as good as the clutches on the sasquatch package but better than open diffs... I can tell the difference between my Forester that doesnt have it and my wife's Outback that does, and when it's turned on or off.

Get some better tires like KO3s or the Falken Wildpeak AT/4 and the only real difference will be who picks a better line. If you really want to be a competitive person, there are some lifts you can get to be able to put larger wheels and get a little taller for slightly larger rocks and deeper sand.
