Just hit 20k and the check engine light came on. Stopped by the dealer and they can't look at until the end of April. I broke out my Ford Procal tuner I bought when I installed the Ford tune on my 2019 Ranger. I reset the code and we will see.

Too funny. They must use the same vacuum purge valve as they do on the Explorer. I reset the code on my wife’s car last year and it lasted 9 months. Then it wouldn’t stay off so I had the valve replaced so it would pass inspection.

Depending on the root cause, this code could indicate your engine is running rich to compensate for a failed component. If you notice that the engine is harder to start or your fuel mileage is lower than normal you might consider having your car diagnosed at an independent shop. Running the engine too rich can damage your catalytic converter.

ODBII code P0496 is an obvious emmissions system code. It will be covered under warranty as long as you're within the warranty period for your BS.

Depending on your dealer, it could be an easy or difficult experience.

Purge valve assembly is an octopus compared to the one in my wife's '12 Escape Limited Hybrid. That was a few minute job.

I've had this code on a vehicle in the past two times with no change in drive quality. One time required a simple software update, the other happened when the gas cap didn't fit quite right after the plastic warped from years of temperature change. So yeah, it could be your purge valve, or it could be something minor and silly. Covered by warranty either way.

Unless you notice a change in how your engine is running or your MPG, don't worry about it. Should be totally fine until the end of April.
