There's an old water tower from the early 1900s at the abandoned Dos Cabezas train station that still has a water tower that is kind of interesting to look at, and the trail to get to it can get a little rough, so I thought it would be a good experience in my '21 Bronco Sport Badlands. I was right! I went alone, without spotters, and the trail isn't crazy difficult, but has some interesting terrain to navigate sometimes.
I am pretty sure that I got one wheel off the ground at one point, and had some deep sand to get through a few times, but nothing too difficult. I left it in Normal mode up, and that's when the wheel lifted and there was some tire spinning before it figured out what to do, but then it kept going. Going back down, I put it in Rock Crawl mode for the tough areas, and it was a piece of cake with that.
It's about a 2-hour drive east of San Diego, in the Anza Borrego desert. I went later in the day to try to get some photos of the Milky Way in a dark location, but the cloud cover kept that from happening, so I just took a few photos of the area with my drone and the DSLR I brought for the Milky Way photos.
