Took my Outer Banks to the Outer Banks this weekend - experience & pics

Ha, yep I’ve seen it. Was telling my wife just that while we were there. Those towing companies must make a good chunk of change towing people out. Don’t be scared though. I’ve been driving on the beach for a long time with different vehicles and was super impressed with the Sport. If you air...

Took my Outer Banks to the Outer Banks this weekend - experience & pics

The tires without so much bite tend to do better because they'll float on top rather than dig in. Just make sure to air down to 15-20 psi and it should do really well. It honestly didn't struggle once on soft sand. The only issue was the bottom dragging on the deep ruts and accidentally hitting...

    Outer Banks vs Badlands

Yup, but part of it is also helping others make a good choice for themselves. Seeing as the thread is someone asking which one to get, we should probably try to give good information. There is nothing wrong with getting a BL and waiting for it because you want it. I do think there is something...

    Outer Banks vs Badlands

Lol true, no issue with that. But I wouldn’t knock the lower trims and tell people to get a RAV4 instead, which I read earlier on in this thread or another. There is a bit of a superiority complex going around just because people own the BL. They end up saying pretty ridiculous things like the...

    Outer Banks vs Badlands

Yup. However, back when I got it a few months ago, Ford wasn’t taking orders. I needed something for summer beach driving and this car has delivered in ways that others haven’t. But I honestly think the BL is unnecessary for most of the people buying them. They could get by just fine without the...

    Outer Banks vs Badlands

Yeah it’s funny to me. I had a Model Y that I sold last year. That thing went 0-60 in 4.9 seconds. I guarantee that compared to this 2.0L, that thing felt like a spaceship. 98%+ of the time though I was stuck in traffic unable to accelerate that fast. I floored it for like a week after I got it...

    Outer Banks vs Badlands

The RAV4’s I’ve driven struggle on even simple dirt roads compared to my current car. The AWD system on all BS trims is superior. In fact, pretty much anything else in its class is superior to the RAV4 AWD. The exhaust hangs really low on the Toyota as well making its departure angle about 10...

I have a compressor that I plug into the 12V outlet. You can get them for pretty cheap on Amazon. It takes about 3-5 minutes per tire to air back up to about 30psi. This one here: https://a.co/d/bYwgUSH. It’s very cheap and loud but it works great. Hasn’t failed me yet in the last few months.

Took my Outer Banks to the Outer Banks this weekend - experience & pics

They’re great! I haven’t seen any effect on MPG. I still get around 28-32 on the highway. They perform really well on the road and on dirt and gravel. They’re awesome on sand too where some of the more aggressive AT tires may not perform as well. I went with the 235/65/18, which give the car a...

Unofficial MPG thread for the 1.5L

It really varies for me. I can get up to 30-32mpg with cruise control, minimal headwind, and no traffic on the highway. In city traffic it’s closer to 20-22mpg. I average around 24-26. I keep a lot of crap in my car and have AT tires on though.

Nice! This is in Ocracoke. A few weeks ago we went into the beaches around Fort Fisher on a whim. I only aired down to around 22 psi then and the ruts there are a lot deeper than at Ocracoke. It still did really well. Never stopped moving. I got some very surprised looks from people on their...

Took my Outer Banks to the Outer Banks this weekend - experience & pics

Handled the soft sand like a pro. The only issue was the ground clearance. There were times when I went into the deep ruts and plowed some sand, but it never stopped moving. I had a blast! I have 235/65/18 Falken Wildpeak AT Trail tires on and I aired down to around 18 psi.
