  1. Manual shifting

I mean, the lack of a real manual gear select on the 1.5 seems like a problem to me. Auto transmissions make extremely stupid gear decisions for many situations. That being said, there's no reason why engine braking shouldn't be useful in even a 1.5L. You obviously need to keep an eye on the...
  2. Manual shifting

That's not the case. On a mountain highway, your 2.0L and even the 1.5 are totally capable of engine braking. You should be able to simply chose a gear and coast. If you do happen to hit a very steep bit, a controlled brake application for a few seconds to reduce your speed might occasionally be...
  3. Thoughts on the new Dodge Hornet vs Bronco Sport

It won't touch the BS off road. Those tires have smaller sidewalls than the ones on my WRX. This trend of trying to make cars sporty and nimble for people who insist on a ridiculously high center of gravity is asinine. These vehicles are conceptually crippled. Too road focused to go off road...

My build got push back from May 30th to June 20th this week. Boo!
  5. Suddenly feeling stuck between BS OB vs BS BL!!

I have a 2015. It really isn't a great setup for off roading. The brake vectoring is *ok*, but it's not going to save you if you have one wheel in the air going up hill. Of course, that doesn't really matter, because the clearance is on 5" on the 2015, and the angles are awful. Plus, the gearing...
  6. Waiting room

I put in an order on the A-Plan, but Ford seems to think it's a reservation more than an actual order. At least, when I tried to sign up for the Off-Roadeo, they said I couldn't because they weren't counting it as an order. I don't understand the difference, but I wonder if that has some effect.
  7. Waiting room

Just called my dealer. They say my base BL is "Unscheduled Clean" meaning that there aren't any options holding it up, but it hasn't been scheduled yet. They put in the order on Feb 2, so I'm guessing after today that the earliest build date is in June. So, not holding my breath.
  8. Suddenly feeling stuck between BS OB vs BS BL!!

You sound just like me. Drive all manuals, currently driving a WRX. I'm getting a Badlands, because I moved to Oregon, and I just don't have the clearance to to where I need to in the WRX. I think it has the grip for the most part, but 1st is too high on really steep stuff. I'm not really...
  9. Waiting room

Just got that email. Ordered Feb 1st. I'm not sure what it means, but I'm worried it means "probably not until late this year". For what it's worth, it was ordered in my wife's name, because her dad is a Ford employee, so we got it on the A plan. If there is any COVP priority, we should have...
  10. Videos of Off-Roading in the Sport

I have the same problem with these as I do with most reviews. They don't push it at all. They all show really high quality dirt roads that my WRX, or even a prius would handle without any issue. A few reviews actually do put the thing through it's paces, and it's capable of some impressive stuff.
  11. Waiting room

I ordred a badlands with no sunroof, 360, premium package, or anything else. I even dropped the tow package to hurry the build date along. I think the dealer submitted it on Feb 1st or 2nd, and I haven't heard anything about a build date yet.
