The RDU (Rear Differential Unit) is one of the reasons why I traded in my AWD Bronco Sport for a full-sized 4WD Bronco with a proper transfer case, Dana rear differential and a much more usable ground clearance.
The Bronco Sport RDU simulates a mechanical open diff using clutches, thus...
I'm getting just under 23MPG with my Bronco with the 7-speed. Were you running huge tires, a roof rack, a winch and all the other weighty goodies? My 2024 Bronco Sport Big Bend averaged 29MPG - approximately only 7MPG more.
I'm not sure how they can hybridize the Bronco Sport without sacrificing all that wonderful interior space. I'm also not sure if Ford will have the motivation to even try, with the vehicle assembly still in Mexico.
Thanks for the update. I agree that Ford may be making a mistake by eliminating the Escape. It sells well and really isn't the same thing. Though it's built on the same platform, its target market is different.
Off-topic a bit, but you mentioned a new Escape. When we purchased our new 2023 Escape in early 2024, the dealership said that 2025 would be the last year for the Escape, and that the Bronco Sport will be picking up that segment. But I'm hearing things that indicate this is not true. Can you...
Absolutely. The same thing holds true at scale: even with the full-sized Bronco, there are those (like me) with open diffs, no lift, giant tires or tech gizmos. For me, they aren't needed, and amount to added cost, complexity, cost, added maintenance and weight.
Here is a shot from my GoPro, taken a couple of weeks ago, on the Dragon's Tail in Tennessee, which has 318 turns and spans over 11 miles (as mentioned earlier in this thread). Great fun!
I guess that's what I was trying to say. Should've kept it simple, like you just did. Anything else is just an attempt to add emphasis!
Same color? Let me guess: Cactus Gray?
I gotta add something here: road manners on the big Bronco depends, among other things, on what variant you get, the shocks, the tire size and tire design. I took the Dragons Tail in Virginia two weeks ago in mine. I have it all on the GoPro - it was a BLAST and very surprising to me.
The...
Exactly - and I think what you're saying is why the Bronco Sport exists. It's not that it's a compromise if it does exactly what you ask of it! Most people DON'T go off-road. Most people DON'T haul around anything more than their zero-turn mower. With the Sport, you get the comfort, the...
I traded in my 2024 Bronco Sport Big Bend (well-optioned) for a 2024 Bronco Big Bend. I missed the ground clearance, a 2-door and a manual transmission above all. It wasn't an easy decision, because I really liked my Bronco Sport (and my older boy kept his).
Pluses: The full-sized Bronco -...
I noticed that too. In my case, I traded in my Bronco Sport for the big Bronco. We still have a Sport in the family, as well as an Escape, which is why I am still on this forum.
Folks are buying the Bronco Sports, so you'd think there would be more activity.
Keep the faith. I hope you're right. I hope the economy, regulation and the business argument behind manufacturer and 3rd-party ongoing support in the years to come are in our favor.
Unfortunately you missed my point. In CONTRAST to the 1971 Chevelle - which had zero software and very little electronics (none of which being vital to its function) - how can we be assured that we will have the manufacturer and vendor support over half a century later for the Bronco Sport...
I'm afraid there is far more to this problem than the fragility of hardware. Do we have the promise that Ford will keep up the firmware updates, keep their networks and datacenters up for, say, another 50 years? Will Ford promise to keep out exploits to our critical vehicle software? It's not...
That's nuts. I got my 2024 Bronco Big Bend last November for < $42K (2-door manual, with the only option being the Velocity Blue paint). At that time there were lots of Broncos on the lots (and there are even more now). To be doing dealer add-ons in that kind of environment doesn't make...
Precisely. The little Bronco Sport, with tires like that, will handle about anything you'd throw at it on a county road, in the slush and snow. It will go places other compact SUVs won't, and it will do it comfortably with tons of legroom and headroom (I'm about 6'2, 240 pounds and had no...
