Just tossing in my experience. My wife's 2021 First Edition battery was giving warnings and stopped cranking one day last week. Jump started easily with cheap jumper battery. Put the battery on charger and quickly showed fully charged. Would start but slow turning starter. Battery was 4...
I finally got around to changing the RDU oil today. I have a 2021 First Edition with 39k miles and I am the second owner. When I got under the rear end for a good look things were way cleaner than I expected. I am quite sure there has been no rough treatment on this vehicle. I drained the...
So the TSB addresses a manufacturer's defect that can cause a catastrophic RDU failure possibly putting you on the side of the road. The TSB will not be enacted unless the RDU at least shows signs of failure (the shudder). The TSB vent replacement will not be considered part of the drive train...
Probably true that NHSTA would give a pass. Could be argued that the failure might cause a mishap on the road. Maybe not a great argument. Would like to think there would be some alternative.
Got online with Ford support chat. As expected, no help. We are not technical specialist. TSB's are not recalls. Yeah, I know. If the RDU fails what would point the tech to the TSB? They could replace the RDU and still leave the old vent hose in place. Maybe they have instructions that...
File a report with the NHSTA. This is how recalls get started. Believe Ford started manufacturing with the new vent hose in 2022. That would mean only 21's and a few 22's would be affected. If Ford can dodge for a few more years they are home free. RDU has to be part of the drive train.
Talked to the local Ford service department. They knew nothing about the TSB so I showed it to them on my phone. They told me they could do nothing unless the RDU was causing problems. TSB are only information for the techs. I pointed out that it might be a good idea to be proactive to...
Checked my vent hose out today. Easy to get to when you know what to do. Mine needs to be replaced. I'm gonna talk to my local dealer but I don't expect much. Think I will change the RDU fluid to be on the safe side.
I'm no expert but I believe the oil that Ford supplies should do the job. I think someone was trying to improve the recommended fluid. When it comes to oils and additives there are many opinions. I plan on changing my RDU oil.
I have a 2021 First Edition I bought used last summer. I need to go out and inspect mine. No noises coming from my RDU so far. The TSB spells out the steps involved.
I was interested in the full size Bronco when Ford was hinting that it would be available years ago. When we were looking to replace our Honda van with something smaller I ended up getting a used BS First Edition. We both think it's a fun, comfortable, sporty little cruiser. It sits up high...
Years ago there was japan version and usa version of the same car made in the same factory. The only difference was a different badge. The usa vehicle was rated one and a half stars lower than the japan vehicle by CR. Maybe it was the difference in manufacturer reporting problems or maybe in...
We had a rattle in one of my cars while I was driving with my wife in the passenger seat. I swore it was on the passenger side. My wife swore it was on the driver side. Turned out to be something in the sunglass holder between us.
If you go to any forum for any product you will get the impression that said product is a problem child. People are going to report problems with a product. That's what forums are for. It's good to know what to look for if a small percentage of people have problems. If there is a real...
I've turned the auto brake off. I'll just drive the same way I've done for 50+ years, take the guess work out. The other thing with the auto brake is parking in the garage. If you are trying to inch up to the sweet spot in the garage the BS jumps forward when the auto brake lets loose. Fine...
