Yeah you would’ve thought something would’ve alerted me about the deer but I think the sensor only picks up metal in objects. Who knew?
It’s a radar, so material is mostly irrelevant in that reflectivity and absorption are the critical factors, with angle of incidence also playing a part. Without knowing the frequency or pulse width, it’s hard to estimate the minimum detection threshold.

Bottom line, radar can track (and cook!) birds, so a deer should be detectable under the right conditions.

I was going by what I’ve read in owner manuals and posted literature. My apologies.
TBH, the OM wouldn’t have super detailed explanations of radar theory, so they will take it down to the simplest (legally defendable) description. 99% of folks would rightfully take it at face value.

Then you have pedantic asshats like me that spent over 20 years in that field spoiling everyone’s day. I’m a blast at parties. ;)

Honest self-awareness is the beginning of wisdom 🤣

You do raise an interesting idea - my Collision system did not engage when I hit a deer last October. Am I right in assuming that is because the deer was "off the radar" on my left and moved into the radar's field of view too rapidly for the system to identify the risk and start the CAS? It was about one second from me seeing it to impact.

That's a likely explanation. I'd imagine the beam pattern is relatively narrow, focused on probably no more than 10-15 degrees off center, if that. Another consideration is that it likely isn't aimed upwards to any significant degree, so it probably would only see legs at that range, and the RCS is just too small and outside the detection threshold.

I'd actually love to see the tech specs of the forward-facing radar. Useless for most, but I'd certainly geek out on it.

The other morning I was coming back from taking my son to school and clipped a deer. There was no body damage to my Bronco but now I get a warning that my Pre Collision Monitor is blocked and not working. I’ve tried searching for the location of the sensor but cannot find the location. Any suggestions? Thanks
I have the 2024 badlands and I don't know much about mechanic repairs on these, but I do know a little about the sensors located in the back and front that control the probs your indicating. In the front, you'll see a 6in. Wide by 4in high pc of plastic above the front license plate and below the "ON" of the Word BRONCO on front grille. Let's put it this way, if you were to put a metal pc(like a metal decal) with adhesive on the back of it over this pace, all the things you stated will not work and will be indicated on the dashboard as not working, just like mud over it or ice. It shuts down everything. So I believe you have damaged the back sensor and should be fixed pronto. Take it to Ford, check it out for damage repair costs. Let me know, that would be very interesting. Also note if you want to blow a bronco owners mind, attach a metal decal over this area in front and watch what happens. Sorry I have first hand experience with this, and I DID IT TO MYSELF by accident, when I applied a Badlands metal decal on that area. When I drove it the first time after wards, I shit my pants, nothing works it blocks the signal.
