Just replaced first set of tires at 54k miles. Wanted to share my thoughts in case it helped someone. I have badlands with optional wheels and larger 235/65r17. I was immensely pleased with original tire in longevity, noise, capabilities so wanted to stay with Falken.
Options were:
A) Falken AT4W - $220/ea. More aggressive then AT3W, heavier, likely worse mpg as a result.
B) Falken A/T Trail - $206/ea. Much more road oriented then original, less capabilities. Likely slightly better mpg.
C) Falken AT3W - $164/ea. (negotiated to 135). discontinued but some remaining inventory. This is Original Equipment in '21.
I went with C, original tire, for two reasons. I liked the balance as it seems to fall in middle of spectrum of two new options in terms of capabilities, excellent for road but still 3 peak rated. I also was able to find competitor offer to get it for $135/ea from Discount Tire, so substantial discount. There is one DOWNSIDE though to highlight. Given this is discontinued, the tires I were given were 16 months old when installed. This is on barely within acceptable range of brand new tires but worth trade-off for me.
