It's an OTS tune. So is Livernois. I went back and forth between the two when I was making the decision, but I went with 5 Star because of the reviews and the fact that they use the SCT X4, so it would potentially give me more access to other tuners down the road. The tune has been great so far...
I think it's just the "truck" nature of these transmissions. The 10R80 in my Mustang and the 10R60 in my buddy's Explorer ST are both very sloppy in the same way that this 8F35 is. Wide open they all feel great...

My times were recorded with a Dragy. It's a GPS based performance measuring tool and is a pretty awesome little device. You see them used all over YouTube. It shows everything from timings, to temperature, elevation and density altitude, to slope grade, and it even records video.
92 is just...
The tune was only $165, but the SCT x4 tuner was around $400, which I already had prior to buying the tune. When I bought my BSBB the BSBL was closer to $10K more, so to make equal power and performance for less than $600 is pretty good. We'll see how well this powertrain and drivetrain hold up...
I just came across this thread and I figured that I would share my experience. I have been using the 5 Star tune on my 1.5 BSBB for roughly 12,000 miles now on 92 octane and I haven't had any issues. 5 Star has also been very pleasant to deal with. Prior to the tune I was running 8.2 0-60 times...
