One of the most stressful arguments I ever had with a service manager was about a mess the tech left behind following an oil change. There were hand prints all over the fender, oil spilled on top of the engine near the filler port, oil on the defroster cowling, oil on the frame crossmember that spilled from the filter removal, and oil on the splash guard. There was so much spilled oil on the splash guard and frame it was actually dripping. I always check the oil level and look for leaks after someone else changes the oil in my car.

I got the service manager and showed him the mess. He suggested I brought the car in like that. I opened the driver's door and showed him the spotless interior and asked him if he thought someone that anal about keeping the car clean would leave a mess like that. We went back and forth for a few minutes, then he told me I'd have to move the car since it was blocking the entrance to the service bay. I said the car wasn't going anywhere until he cleaned up the mess to my satisfaction. He got red in the face, but had the tech come out with some shop towels and cleaner. 10 minutes later I was on my way, and I've never let anyone change the oil in any of my cars since.
Dang.........glad you voiced it and made them clean it.

It's absolutely crazy you have to practically supervise anybody that does any type of work for you. Pride in workmanship is hard to find these days.

This kind of garbage is the reason why I didn't even want a dealer prep when I bought my car. You never know who they're gonna put to work on (and in) your vehicle. What a hassle!

Agree 1,000%
Take pride in what you do. If you are not happy, should think hard about what you can be passionate about. How you can pivot to get yourself in the direction toward that passion. Set obtainable goals and milestones. Work hard - play hard. Go above and beyond to stand out. Be rewarded and noticed. Simple life changes......

Dealer prep is such a joke........along with any fee fees. I'm sure we all hate the finance guy office expierence too where they try to up sell cross sell and whatever sell to maximize their profit. Hate that part.....everything is good expierence until you are in the finance office. Let's not forget the stupid windo etching....as if that is adding that much "security".

Had a 2015 mustang that had the dreaded A/C failure! Took it in for warranty work. They left both bolts unscrewed on the side of the dash! Scratched the interior to hell and the performance pack gauges! Mind you I’ve bought 4 mustangs from this dealer before. The GM wasn’t happy! He got everything squared away for me!

Always great to hear when Dealership owned up to be accountable instead of trying to point fingers elsewhere. ?

I had airbag recall work done on my 2011 Honda CR-V years ago, and they left two bolts inside my steering wheel laying by the airbag mechanism! The dealer shook it off when I told them those bolts could have become projectiles if the airbag went off. They installed the bolts no hassle and the service manger gave me a free oil change. I laughed in his face and never went back.

Warranty and recall repairs can be a joke. Took my Fusion in for passenger side air bag recall. Driving home the instrument panel went bonkers. Drove it right back. Joke of a service manager tried to tell me it was a coincidence. Maybe, but after tearing my dashboard apart? Most likely not. But maybe. Wouldn’t budge insisting I needed new instrument panel at the low low price of $2200 installed. Bought a used, guaranteed unit on line for $80 delivered with only 80 miles more on it than what was replaced. And Ford online, another useless joke. Very sympathetic but not resolutions ever for anything.

Shortly after leaving the lot I heard something rattling around and knew something wasn't right, then one fell out onto my floor mat while turning. The other loose one was found by the technician when they took it apart to find where the first one went. Crazy!!!

The last time I had my F150 serviced, the tech pulling it out of the bay misjudged the turn. There was a tow truck sitting outside of the bay. The tech bumped the tire of the tow truck with my truck's bumper.

The dealer brought me out to look at the "damage"....There was a small scuff mark about 1" long.

He apologized profusely, and offered to repair it, pull the bumper and repaint it.

I told him not to worry about it. After discussing it with him, he went into the body shop, grabbed a can of touch up paint, sandpaper and a cloth. He made a quick touch up on the spot.

I read what happens at other dealers, and am very happy to have 2 quality dealers in a 30 minute drive.

That's really inexcusable. I'm glad they made things right, but thanks for posting. This is a good warning to people to make sure they fully inspect their vehicle before driving away from the dealership.

Service appointment was made to get 2 things done.

1. Water build up in the 3rd brake light.
2. Passenger side rear power window malfunctioning.

Overall dealer fixed the problem but not without leaving me really questioning Ford Brand Quality Workmanship.

Long story short, dealer took my car in to replace the 3rd brake light. What I got back was more issues and several new damages to the car because of a grade level D mechanic what appear to be careless or clueless about quality of work. His workmanship directly reflect on Ford Brand and I give that a failing F.

Remeber, I went in for 2 repairs and end result were way more damages and now new repairs to be made simply because of poor workmanship.

Here is the list and photos of what I got back:

1. 3rd brake light housing also have the rear spray nozzle built into it. Well that was facing the sky not the winshield.

2. Non functioning rear spray nozzle. I suspect the fluid hose must have been bent or disconnected at install since no fluid was coming out of it which was facing the sky.

3. Dents all over the Trunk around the 3rd brake light housing from God knows what the heck mechanic was doing to get that in there. Clearly pounding that 3rd brake light in there.

4. Rear defroster connecting was disconnected (I simply connected it).

5. Extreme poor job putting back all the trunk plastics and some were not even put back all the way.

6. Dirt marks on my ceiling (it happens but man clean it up).

7. They replaced the rear passenger door power window motor. I'm guessing the mechanic had a flat head screw driver or something and slashed the door.

I am not sure if there is a QC process after the work is done but clearly that was not done. Big miss and bigger mess. More damage and repair needed than going in. Ultimately more resource, wasted expense, and questioning the Ford Brand. I spoke to the service manager and he too was shocked and took care of it all so overall it is water under the bridge. What I don't know is did they hold the mechanic accountable or question if SOP were followed? End product or work should not go out without QC and I'm sure it was hard to miss.

See photos and share your service expierence.
