Is the Outer Banks a 4X4 or AWD?

Hello...is the OB a 4X4 or AWD? What would be the difference? Most SUV are badged as AWD.

Essentially, it is AWD by most offroad conventions (no true locker or low-range gearbox). However, it does emulate some of those functions with arguable success.

I was somewhat confused regarding that the owners manual addresses the vehcile as a 4X4. My buddy as a Rogue which is badhed AWD.

So - breakdoen - every all time 4x4 is Awd. But, not all Awd are considered 4x4... the distinction being as mentioned above and in the other post is going to be in power distribution. I think a good deal of the idea is that 4x4 sounds cooler than awd as far as marketing, but there is a difference

It's an intelligent 4x4. A true 4x4 would have all four tires getting the same power. Awd distributes that power independent. The intelligent 4x4 uses awd technology but because it at time does not push power to all the wheels makes it not an AWD

Mine is AWD due to the fact I can not shift it to 2WD. The G.O.A.T. mode alters the traction control and seems to alter application of throttle response.
