Any protection you can put on is highly recommended. Pictures tell the story. 33,000 miles. Roof and hood.

Do you feel the amount of paint chips you have is normal for your driving conditions or do you think the paint chips too easily?

We have had the dealership install the Aeroskin 2 to protect the hood. I’m not sure whether it will do much to protect the top of the roof.

I’ve always had silver or lighter colors. I really don’t remember lighter color showing this much. Went wild with this red. I don’t regret it. I have touch up paint and will try to keep up with the chips. 99.9% paved road driving.
Just trying to warn others if it’s a concern for them.

The paint chips easy and is really thin. Buy a touch up pen. I’ve had to do a few spots already. Pretty much any little impact chips the paint right off.

I have Ford SurfaceCare. Does anyone know if paint chips are covered with this?

Helpful information as my wife has one on order. It is the leading edge of the hood and the slanted roof surfaces mostly or the horizontal surfaces as well that are getting beat up?

That is definitely where PPF does it’s job. I have full front PPF on my Acura. It was pricey, but it’s been worth every penny. I think that’s where you have to take into account the cost. Is it worth $2100 on a $34-40k car vs a $75k car? But holy cow that is a ton of chips. That is seriously worth considering PPF.

Dang. So maybe both the Ford Hood Deflector and PPF on the Hood and Roof would be your recommendation?

The hood is aluminum I believe. I think that’s part of the issue. My Acura had an aluminum hood and had smaller chips like that at 23k miles. Like it puts the metal since it’s softer. Is a working theory lol. But the paints thin. Most paints give you a good amount to catch a finger nail when they chip, on these it’s not as easy

The paint has Covid? Bwahaha
We were talking about this at work and a guy had paint bubbling on his dodge ram after a year or so...dodge fixed it for him free of charge...I don't think we will get the same treatment

just a suggestion
installed new kitchen cabinetry couple years ago
applied painters tape to drawer faces before drilling holes for pulls
removed tape and painted finish came with it
showed result to retailer
fortunate was only one drawer face
retailer replaced no charge
question
would it be in your interest to try a small area
apply painters tape to an area affected by chipping
if paint specs come off on tape you have a case to present
poor adhesion should be covered IMO
