The Explorer has ballooned up to within a couple inches of the Expedition -- they are both three row vehicles (7-8 passengers, plus cargo).

By the chart and the numbers, I would expect the new Bronco to be slightly smaller than the Edge, which is no petite vehicle either (although the Bronco may be heavier). Neither is the new Escape.

The regular Expediiton (short version) is:
  • 80" wide
  • 210" long
  • 122" wheelbase
  • 5600lb curb weight

The new 2020 Explorer is:
  • 79" wide
  • 199" long
  • 119" wheelbase
  • 4400lb curb weight

The Edge is:
  • 76" wide
  • 189" long
  • 112" wheelbase
  • 4100lb curb weight

New to the US Ranger is:
  • 73" wide
  • 211" long
  • 127" weelbase
  • 4400lb curb weight

AUS Everest is:
  • 73" wide
  • 196" long
  • 112" wheelbase
  • 4950lb curb weight

New 2020 Escape is:
  • 74" wide
  • 180" long
  • 107" wheelbase
  • 3550lb curb weight

Widths are excluding mirrors, ie body width. So the Escape is wider than the Ranger ... ... so that 'baby' Small Utility might not be much smaller than the Bronco.

.
That’s wild that the new escape grew 2” in width. I still think it’s a good size and if the next gen Ranger is the same I’m cool with it. So it may not even really be the “baby bronco” it will just be the cheap bronco lol.

It makes the shadowed image make more sense, and why they're so close together on that financial marketing chart. The 4-door Small Utility and the Bronco really are the same general dimensions, with just the height and clearance likely to stand out (weight differences could be noticeable to the driver). This 'baby' will no doubt be larger than the 2-door Bronco.

Looking at the competition and Ford's own lineup, I think it's safe to say again that most commentators got that stupid "baby" name stuck in their head and thought the Ford Small Utility would compete against Jeeps smallest unit, when the Escape at least, is clearly just as big as the Cherokee. It would make more sense for Ford to target the Cherokee, as it is one of Jeeps top selling models in the middle of the market.

.
Wrangler
  • 74" wide
  • 188" long
  • 118" wheelbase
  • 4400lb curb weight
.
Cherokee
  • 73" wide
  • 182" long
  • 106" wheelbase
  • 3600lb curb weight
.
Compass
  • 74" wide
  • 173" long
  • 104" wheelbase
  • 3300lb curb weight
.
Renegade
  • 71" wide
  • 167" long
  • 101" wheelbase
  • 3300lb curb weight
.

Everything I've read/seen about the Cherokee Trailhawk suggests it's quite a capable vehicle for most peoples needs. If Ford's new model is tackling that and coming out first by several months, then the Bronco really better be bringing some game if it is going to stand out.

According to the chart, the Bronco is actually SMALLER than the FORD EDGE.

OMG, how did I not see that before? This has actually become hilarious.

I should hope so. The Edge is already wider than a Wrangler by 2 inches, and longer than the FSB by 5 inches. Bigger than the Edge would make it quite a porker if it is indeed Wrangler they have in their sights.

If I'm not mistaken, Ford already has a Suburban-fighter on the market, little need to replicate that.

The Wrangler width of 73.9” is at the fender flares not the body. I can’t find an official dimension, but I’d say the body is less than 65”.

That is several inches narrower than an EB. I’m a good sized guy and find my EB quite roomy.

The body of the Wrangler cabin is 60". The outside surface of the wheels is 74".

The EB's were 68" IIRC

Even compact cars usually have a cabin body width greater than the Wrangler.

The '19 Ranger is smaller than the '20 Explorer in all exterior dimensions except height. Explorer is heavier. Explorer has a seating capacity of seven, I wouldn't expect the (4-door) Bronco to manage more than five. Ranger has a longer wheelbase, no telling where that will be on the 4-door Bronco but 126" would be kind of long, I think - a JLU is 118.4" compared to the Explorer's 119.1"

I haven't seen dimensions on the next-gen Ranger that Bronco will share some archetecture with, but if it is sized similar to the current Ranger, I would fully expect the Bronco to be smaller than the 2020 Explorer in almost every aspect unless they're going to bump up sizes again.
Just keep in mind that the Taurus, Explorer and Flex all rode on the same platform. They all had different wheelbases so the Ranger platform is just a starting point for the general architecture of the vehicle.

What if the orange concept has been the ranger based bronco this whole time? It just looks like the baby bronco being tested sits and looks too car like

There is a very different structure between the ugly franken-ranger mule and the small utility. The Bronco is body-on-frame with a solid rear axle, and the one pictured above is unibody with fully independent suspension.

The small utility looks carlike because its built on a compact car platform, and is probably meant to be more economical and easy to operate.

I am so confused.
How can that vehicle be the baby Bronco?
The secret spy shots are NOTHING like this car we are seeing out in the wild.

For one, the tires are WAY larger on the old spy shots, just look at the orange one or the grey one.
2nd, The wheel center caps sit BELOW the rocker panel on the orange one yet they are above the rocker on this one. Where in the hell did all the ride height go for off roading? Did they slam it to the ground to throw us off?
Lastly, what the heck is with these new worthless TINY wheel wells? The orange one has way larger openings that flare out at the bottom to leave things wide open for lifts/bigger tires. This new one has wheel wells so dang small the tiny OEM tires barely fit! How is anybody going to put bigger tires on that without some serious hacking?

I see nothing anybody can work with here... if that’s the baby bronco, I will be extremely disappointed and very concerned over what the real bronco ends up being.

At least that would make more sense....
But to call that the baby Bronco is absolutely depressing. Could we actually be looking at some sort of future transit connect model or even the new mustang inspired suv?
I really don’t care what it is, As long as it’s not a Bronco of any sorts.
Might as well call it the new Blazer, maybe Ford pulled a chevy on us and what we have been expecting is all a big joke.
