After receiving our 25 Lincoln Corsair we noticed the windshield wipers wouldn’t run smoothly across the windshield. I assumed the windshield just needed a good clean probably due to dirt or dust, etc. It had some smearing on it as well but we assumed it was because the dealer didn’t do the best job cleaning it. It’s happened before with other vehicles and it’s never been a problem.
We then realized (on a bright, sunny day) that the windshield was full of tiny specks, almost like overspray or something.
I attempted a normal clean myself, first with auto glass cleaner and distilled water. This has been enough in the past but it didn’t do anything. Then I tried a mixture of vinegar and distilled water and again it did absolutely nothing.
We took it to the dealer to take a look and was told it has some sort of contamination on it. They contacted Ford and told us they’d give us a call later. In the meantime we had an appointment with a pro detailer to get a quote for detailing and possibly ceramic coating. He took a look at the glass and said it looks like contamination of some kind as well. He said he would remove it by using a clay bar, blade or 0000 steel wool.
The dealer got back to us and informed us that Ford wanted them to essentially decontaminate the windshield by using steel wool, etc. We made an appointment and eventually took it in.
To cut a long story short, the service manager took it upon himself to use steel wool (it sounds like he used the kitchen type) on the windshield and damaged it beyond repair. He also damaged the cowl beyond repair. He came back and informed us that Ford’s solution had failed and replacement is necessary.
So we’re thinking this is all official warranty stuff. No. The dealer was paying for the windshield.
A couple of weeks later we get an appointment for the new windshield and cowl. The dealership picked up the car and installed it. They had a glass contractor do it. They dropped it off after completion.
Immediately after receiving it back we noticed horrific creaking, cracking and squeaking sounds. It’s constant and especially bad when the body flexes. We also noticed they didn’t install OEM glass. You can see it’s not flush in the same way as the original windshield.
Angry, we went back to the dealership immediately and told them about the issues. They only believed us after taking a ride in it. After around 20 minutes of arguing they agreed to replace it with OEM glass and fix it. It will take another month. They also said they would not apologize for doing us a “favor.”
The glass contractor actually came out, looked at the glass and said “well it’s in there” and “they all sound like that.”
The service manager and general manager won’t really talk to us anymore. They even told us to tell Lincoln to stop calling them.
I’m curious. How would you guys have reacted? Did we overreact? It sucks when your new car sounds like it’s breaking apart!
