I could see running wheel spacers if the secondary bolt pattern was for some special rim that isn't available in the standard BS bolt pattern.
If it's for "stance" purposes with the stock wheels I don't see the point.

The only other good reason is to get OEM offset with an aftermarket wheel. Suspension designers spend a great deal of time matching all the components and working out all the geometry to prove a comfortable ride and safe handling. Moving wheels in or out on the axle changes suspension geometry which can have a deleterious affect on ride and handling, and if taken to extremes can even damage other suspension components. I would not take such a risk lightly, especially to effect a change in appearance. Here's a good video explaining the pros and cons of wheel spacers.
