Does anybody took off for good the front air-mud guard? Does it have a specific function? Any speculation it’s welcome.

The upholstery in my steering wheel is uneven, there is a sort of wrinkle in one side compare to the other. Please see the picture. How is it with yours ? Is it smooth both sides ?
