Had a 22 that got totaled around 40k miles after being rear ended. Now I’m in a 23 badlands. Haven’t noticed any fluid up top but then again I’m only at 11k miles.

Can confirm. Noticed the same thing on my Badlands last year and took it to the dealership to be safe. It was nothing but excess transmission fluid that had come out of the vent and collected on top.

Did you ever have any maintenance work done on your transmission, such as fluid changes every 30-40k miles? Lots of posts about transmissions failing around 100k.

Yup.. confirmed it’s just transmission fluid from the fill/breather tube. Great video on how to drain and fill the transmission.

Motorcraft Premium Synthetic Hypoid Gear Lubricant SAE75W-85. I’m pretty sure those with the tow package have a transmission cooler. Mine’s the non-tow package so I haven’t done much research into it.

Yeah should be a much more straightforward process since the 1.5 doesn’t have the PTU cooler. Just a drain plug and fill plug.

A rock hit my hood this morning on the highway and left a big dent and scratch. Not a happy camper.

I had the exact same thing happen to mine. Took it to Ford today and they believe it’s transmission fluid based off color/smell. Left it with them so hopefully I’ll get it back in the next couple weeks..

I was under my Badlands earlier today and could not find a fill or drain plug for the liquid cooled PTU. Anyone with a Badlands able to perform a fluid change on the PTU?

Do you mind going into further detail on how you changed the PTU fluid? I haven’t been able to find anything online relating specifically to the bronco sport. I plan on doing a 30k fluid change which is coming up.. thanks.

Switched from a 22 big bend (all the features) to a 22 badlands (bone stock no additional features) and have no regrets whatsoever.

My 22 Badlands in carbonized gray came with a carbonized gray roof. I do not have the premium package so that’s probably why the roof isn’t black. Production date was early February. No complaints as I prefer the gray roof over black, but to each their own.

Originally got the 22 Big Bend with convenience package in January because it was all I could find on the lot. Always wanted the Badlands but decided to settle.. fast forward to today and I traded in the Big Bend for a 22 Badlands (no add ons whatsoever) off the lot and already love it so much...
