This summer I worked in Northern California in the Redwoods at Richardson Grove State Park. I visited the beautiful popular sites on my days off. A special treat was to go to Sinkyone Wilderness State Park in the Lost Coast region of the King Mountain Range.
The road to Needle Rock visitor center is steep, unpaved and narrow for 3.5 miles.
You need to back up if you encounter a car and there is a drop off to the ocean below.
This is the Northern section of the park which has primitive campsites but has a camp host.
The Southern section comprises of Usal Beach and is considered the “Wild West”.
The road there is a rough 6 miles also steep and narrow with dramatic views of the coast.
My Cooper Discoverer Road and Trail ATs 235/65/17 tires gave me confidence.
Primitive camping here. The beach is unfortunately popular with 4WD vehicles who drive illegally on protected areas on the beach. Wildlife abundant here and unusual trees called the Candelabra Redwoods.
