A mouse only needs a 1/4" square hole to enter into a space. The reason is a simple one, they have a skull that is in either three or four sections that will collapse as they find resistance, so basically the size of a pencil eraser on the top is large enough. I live in the National Forest in New Mexico and they play hell with use. I had a neighbor that the mice chewed the seal gasket of his upright freezer along the bottom. He found the hole after he found 2 or 3 frozen mice in, yes, in the working freezer. I use empty water bottles filled with cotton balls, then put about 10 or 15 drops of pure peperment extract on the cotton balls. Every 4-6 weeks I put a small amount of cooking oil in the bottle to re-moisten it and re-activate the smell of peppermint. I keep one bottle under each front seat, and one in the far back along with two in the engine bay, one on each side. These tips seem to work for me and I have lived among the mice for more than 25 years at 8,000 feet elevation. It may be LUCK or just simply Dumb Luck, who knows,. lol Rodger
