I have problems sometimes on my Explorer with the spray at the car wash when entering. But after I'm out the other side and drive away, no other issues. I think the spray confuses the sensor system.
Absoltly. They refer to it in the manual under emergency operations, then don't supply the needed part? That bolt would add a few dollars, at best to the cost.

While an object kicked up by another vehicle can travel quite far considering the speeds the vehicles are moving, that does not look like it was caused by an object striking it. There isn't an obvious impact point. It almost appears that tension on the frame caused it. Flexing perhaps?
