It is just a pressure fit cap - You can install it while the wheel is on vehicle!- I do 5 tire rotation on My F-150 and just swap them between the 4 wheels on the truck. They just pop out when wheel is removed and pushed from the back - could have just fallen out or they removed it to balance...
