What is Ford using for their pads?? Holy F!! I never had a car/suv that produced so much dust! It is so bad it is destroying my rims...This is what they look like after 4k miles on my 2022... I have the 18" Upgraded Rims...

The other pic here is what they look like after a week washing them spotless!!

After noticing the brake dust creating scratching, I am now force to take the tires off, compound out the scratches and Ceramic or Graphene coat them! Anyone who is on here and is waiting to get a new Sport or on Order...Do your self a favor, Pad Swap your brakes as soon as possible! My Escape never had this issue with MotorCraft Parts and even later on when I installed some Powerstops. Go with some Carbon Fiber Powerstops or a brand you like or Akebono or EBC Pads if they have them for the Sport yet..

Anyone else seeing this on their rims and scratching them up when the dust slings???

It's not so bad on the back, but that is because the rear brakes aren't used as much as the front ones..

I swear the quality I am seeing things on the Sport, its going to look like crap in 2 years! Already paint chips and a big chip and bunch of micro chips in my Windshield! (Another post on that to come)

Yep! My front wheels have significantly more brake dust than the rear. I can wash the car and they are coated within a day or 2

I've never heard of brake dust causing scratches by itself. Corrosion, yes. But not scratches like those pictured. What are you using to clean your wheels?

I use Adams (Non Acid) Wheel and Tire Cleaner which after many reviews is one of the best to remove Brake Dust..I use a boars brush for the front of the rims...A hand bristle brush for the tires and I also use a Speedmaster wheel brush to get inside from AutoGeek.

I also have other detailing stuff such as Amazing Roll-Off (Melts the dirt from the tires), and another product I haven't tried yet.. P&S Brake Buster..

Ford Bronco Sport What is Ford Using for Brake Pads???? OMG the Dust!! 1657296571490

I also just purchase wheel brush where they are soft wool, but haven't used them yet....

I also have Griots wheel cleaner and used Sonax where it goes on green or clear and turns purple when it comes into contact with Iron. Just like Car Pro Iron-X if you ever used it..

I have many products as I follow many detailing channels and read up on AutoGeek Detailing forums for the last 10 years. So I use what many of the Pro's would use and review.

The reason I think it is the dust cause there is also scratches on the face of the rims and the way they are curved in the pictures looks like when the wheel is turned, the force is moving loose dust to the outside thus dragging on the rim..Thus why you see so much of it on the tires..That is my theory on what is happening I think unless someone else could maybe explain...

My Escape Black Sport rims never scratch like this...Just over time the clear coat started to peel and corrosion started to happen..but you are talking about 7 to 8 years down the road in NY Salty Winter weather over time...

The clear coat used on the wheels is no different than the clear coat used on the paint. I've seen pits and chips in the clear coat on the front end cause by tiny rocks kicked up in traffic, but I've never seen scratches caused from dust blowing by. I've seen scratches in the clear coat caused by not properly irrigating a dusty surface before going at it with a sponge, but it sounds like you take steps to avoid that. Do you perhaps drive off road? Maybe near shrubbery that could contact the wheels? Does the car sit outside or is it garaged?

I think there has to be another explanation besides brake dust. For that to be the case the damage would come from nothing more than the dust particles touching the clear coat. It seems to me there would have to be something holding the dust particles against the clear coat as they move past, and air flowing past can't provide that kind of mechanical force.

I would think using anything that might catch and hold grit, like wool should be avoided.
I use brushes only on my wheels/tires and rinse frequently as a personal preference.

When I clean my wheels what I do is wet them down first..Spray them with the cleaner and let it dwell for a min or 2 to do its work..Rinse..do a 2nd spray down and then use a brush. Only thing I can think of is that the dust was so caked on that when agitating it caused it..but I have never seen that personally..but then again, I never seen a wheel with this much dust also.

My car sits outside in my driver way where I am in a circle cudsac..no traffic. My house is the middle...

At work I'm in a parking garage and I park at the very top floor, 6" from a passenger side wall so no one can come close to park next to me :).

Example....I will get closer to wall than this at times...

I don't drive off road and most of my travel is 25 min to work on the Express Way...In Winter I keep it in the garage..

In your original post you mention the brake dust only after 4K miles? How often do you wash your BS??

As for rock chips in the paint and windshield....ANY vehicle made today, does not matter the brand, will chip....not at all an indicator of a vehicles quality IMO. BELIEVE IT OR NOT, the thicker the paint, the more likely it will chip. Most people with new cars complain that the paint is "too thin"......what really is the problem is all paint in now waterbased and thus weaker......

How close do you tailgate/follow cars on the highway?? What the BS has against it is that the front is upright, meaning the rocks have nowhere to bounce off of, same true for the windshield.

I would recommend PPF film applied to your headlights, grille and front of hood. I also had the lower 6" of the doors done too....paint protection film is the way to go.

I'm going to make an assumption...(insert ass, u Me joke here) based on evidence, I'd guess a lot. Heavy brake dust and chips tells me tight hard on the pedal, even harder and frequent on the brakes, averaging 22-24mpg. I have close to 12K miles, use a rim/spoke brush every other wash just to keep mild dirt out. I am pretty anal when it comes to cleaning. I wash once a week, apply ceramic coating as soon as it starts to lose tight beading. I can only guess based on what's there

I have washed it a few times... 3 to in a touch less wash.. 3 to 4 in a car bay and a few time end of winter in car wash.. Which I try to avoid all costs.. Now it is warm out I try to do once a week on my days off on weekends as I just started to pull out and organize my detail products.

I don't tail gate.. Drives me insane! Of course during rush hours I may be caught in there is no avoiding.. Im one always passing as I do have a little heavy foot.. But I don't ride the brakes or come to hard stops.. I will coast..

When I refer to chip I'm not talking about a big one or a ton or those you may of seen near the wipers.. This is what I mean...

See the white dot bottom middle? Yes.. Im anal when it comes to this on a new car..now a few years down the road.. Yes I get it.

As for PPF.. I've looked into it as I follow a fellow YouTube Scott HD where he is testing like 6 brands of PPF and other detailing stuff.. Check him out.

As for the other thinking I get 23mpg...nope I'm currently avg 28.8 and will admit a little aggressive.. Aka do about 10 over limit.

I guess it is what it is.. Like I said I never had such issues.. Aka brake dust like this on my Escape.. Escort..Probe..Grand Am.

Yeah that's not quite the ding I had envisioned. I'm particular so I get it...but that's a stone tick. I have one on the driver door I heard it hit and saw it leave a stone truck...it took a chunk out of the paint. Covered it with touch-up all is good. I guess have them inspected and as some have mentioned perhaps change pads based on driving habits. If you are in NY...be thankful you still have fenders on it. Rough city
