Yes, you're correct--the Mustang uses the 2.3L. I believe the block is the same, but I don't know about the water pump. I'll add a correction on my post.
It's all good it's gotta be close. They use it in the RS also I remember it was having issues with coolant passages in the block cracking. I think it's a bored out 2.0L block

Nearly identical bore, but longer stroke.

A longer piston stroke limits RPM and thus horsepower, but it gives back in the potential for greater low-end torque.

The water pump part # for the ā€˜21-ā€˜24 2.0L engine (e.g. Badlands) is posted in the following thread. I do not know if it is the only part # for the 2.0L water pump.

Someone could look up all the vehicles the part # is used in. (Post #1 at the following link does list a set of vehicle but I donā€™t know if thatā€™s a complete list of vehicles).

Or don't, that's just my advise. Seems like 90% of I have an issue threads here are sports equipped with the 1.5L. Not hating, just facts. Water Pumps, and catalytic converters are expensive.
very easy to explain - 90% of Sports are 1.5, so in numbers for you:

Ford sold 459,893 units since 2021, so there are:

413,903 1.5s out there vs
45,989 2.0

does this make things clear? šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

I had to combine data and dig through sources regarding the mixā€¦but even if we were talking 80/20, itā€™s not a significant increase.

also used autotrader.com but didnā€™t post those numbersā€¦there 32,912 BS for sale nationwide and about 6k are Badlandsā€¦

the sheer proportion of Base, Big Bend and Outer Banks, etc out there is hugeā€¦.for example there are more Outer Banks for sale in the used market today than Badlands!

to simplify, the odds of someone driving a BS with a 1.5 is 9 to 1!!! So yep, you will hear about ā€œmoreā€ problems because it simply makes sense based on the dataā€¦

It is way more than I would have thought. I'm still glad I made the decisions I did, but I really do appreciate data.

I ask him a simple question and he must have got upset and put me on ignore talk about dish it out but can't take it.
Me? I replied in post #30, quoted you too.

I think you just didn't understand my point. I didn't mean to take any personal jabs. Someone just took what I said way too personal and OP's thread got hijacked.

Just the facts sir!
And opinions šŸ«£
I thought it was just a bad batch from supplier Melling? Havenā€™t these pumps been used for a long time now in many models.

If so why a sudden failure in the Dragon engine in the Bronco Sport?? My water pump went at 3000 miles no problem since being replaced, almost at 12k miles now. Thanx

Iā€™m no expert on the 1.5L water pump failure mechanisms so check with someone with direct knowledge of the exact water pump failure mechanisms.

Owners are posting what they think are the water pump issues but often that is info passed to them by a service advisor or a Ford Tech (may or may not be direct knowledge). Ford Engineering, management and suppliers will have the direct knowledge.

My understanding is there are 2 water pump part numbers for 1.5L ā€˜21-ā€˜24 Bronco Sports and owners have posted both pumps can leak. And it is not sudden information as owners have been reporting water pump leaking for several years.

There are many posts about the root cause and one cause could be casting sand that was not flushed out during manufacturing of the 1.5L engine although on that topic, at least 2 Ford Techs (alleged) have posted their disbelief on the casting sand as the cause.

One source of information is TSB 25-2001 and you can find Technical Service Information for your Ford Bronco Sport here:

classic tell tale sign of low coolant or thermostat stuck open. get rid of that thing before warranty is up
Water pumps can fail on any engine on the road today, itā€™s not just a 1.5L issue.
Even the invincible 2.0L has reported water pump failures. Whatā€™s the big deal? It will be replaced under warranty.
Getting tired of all the 1.5L haters here.

Brought my '22 BSOB to dealer for oil/rotation/PA inspection and was notified by dealer that I needed a new water pump. With only 22K miles I was more than surprised. Thankful I have a few more months until original warranty it to expire. Just a note, the water pumps are on back order; my dealer contacted a few dealers with only one dealer willing to sell it to them.

Also, bringing truck back to dealer this Thursday for the reverse noise fix. Hopefully, this fix works after four fails!
