Today i had the absolute honor to join a fellow BS Badlands owner from my home city in a journey out to the Citrus Wildlife Management Area. We bummed a route from a Facebook trail riding group for a trip in January for Beginners and decided to give it a go ourselves.
My wife, one of my bestfriends and myself met with the other Owner and their SO and made the hour and a half long journey south to Inverness to start the exploration. We had downloaded and printed the Brochure map for Citrus as well as the Route instructions. We did some research ahead of time and from what we gleaned, the route wouldn't be particularly hard and there would be bypasses for most sketchy things, we also got advise to not trust puddles, especially those with visible deep ruts.
My goal was for everyone in my car to get seat time because we have not had the chance to do anything like this before, so we made sure to rotate several times. The route was a lot of fun, lots of heavily cambered sections between high walls, several sugar sandy areas, several mudpits, a handful of trustworthy water crossings and several not trust worthy water crossings that we bypassed. There were some decent elevation climbs for florida and quite a few sections to get a tire or two in the air (again, bypasses were available, but we had some fun on those sections) and the Badlands handled everything with ease, even if it wasn't deserved.
We did experience a lot of scratching noises, mostly under the car from plants, sticks and what have you hitting the skid plates, lot of stuff for my dangling and hitting the roof boxes and WeBoost antenna (we had to lower the antenna and take a bit of a creative path to get under a fallen tree in one point otherwise i would have hit the solar panel as well). No damage was noted to our Car even after thorough inspection when we got home, dirt and mud every where and notably used the skids for their intended purpose, but everything under the car is in perfect condition, only some minor paint scratches from some quite narrow paths.
Honestly had a fantastic time with the other Badlands owner and my first real time offroad so below ill send a link to the... sketchiest part of the journey.
