In august the transmission of my 21 BB with just over 59k started feeling like it was jumping in and out of gear while at steady cruise. The dealership originally diagnosed it as a failed RDU and replaced that. When I picked it up, the transmission was still acting up as there had been an incorrect diagnosis. I took the vehicle back a few days later on oct. 18 and was correctly diagnosed with transmission failure.

It is now Jan 11. I was told the last part on backorder was to be recieved on the 12th. Now I get word from the dealership that Ford has pushed the ship date to 1/26. Ford customer service seems to have little care about the fact that I have been without a properly working vehicle since the end of August and have had to spend over $7k+ on rental vehicles because I am a courier and use my own vehicle for work.

Looks like the 8F35 cant make 60k.

State attorney general complaint, in Colorado (your state) and Michigan (where ford is headquartered).

Transmission failure out of warranty is, monetarily, your problem. Ford not getting parts in any reasonable timeframe is not.

(I would personally argue that Ford's inability to resolve your issue even at your own expense is grounds that the repair should be goodwill.)

What is the Ford Powertrain Warranty?
The Powertrain Warranty covers components such as the engine, transmission, and drivetrain. It begins at the Warranty Start Date and lasts for 5 years or 60,000 miles, whichever occurs first.

The OP is sort of lucky at 59K miles.

I get what you mean by the car being within 5yr/60K miles as "Lucky" in a sense, but the dealer has had the car for warranty work since October 18th and now is saying that the ship date for the OP's parts is 01/26. The dealer is expected to have the car for over three months before the parts even ship. In OPs shoes, I certainly would not feel lucky to be deprived the use of the vehicle for three months.

I would raise hell with ford. Apparently Colorado lemon law does not provide OP relief, as it only covers the warranty period or one year, whichever comes first... OPs car is more than one year old.

Can you please send over a message with your VIN and the name/location of your local Ford dealer? I would like to take a closer look at your Bronco's transmission issues.

*SIGH*

I get your frustration, but your experience cannot support such a claim. It may be true for YOUR vehicle, but it cannot be applied to the entire fleet. Several members here have logged far more than 60K on their cars with no transmission issues.

Could it possibly be another premature failure based on that well loved Start/Stop technology that I'm sure in 60000 miles has to have saved any owner a grand total of a tank or two of fuel. Their is no way to prove it, but I wonder if Albegro left his BS in the default on for most of that 60k ??
Just Saying... Sometimes, if your not part of the solution... you might be part of the problem.

What does the Auto Start/Stop feature have to do with the transmission?

Does the torque converter not stop when the engne stops and then "jolted" back into rotation when the engine restarts and begins to move the vehicle?

Modern torque converters are designed to stop turning when the vehicle comes to a stop. It shouldn't reengage until you step on the accelerator to start moving again. I've never heard of torque converter wear due to auto start/stop technology. If anyone has a link I'd love to see it.

I was just trying to point out that with auto stop/start active, things die and must be brought back to life, instead of when auto stop/start is inactive and those things are simply released to go. I know that there are elements in place that make the auto stop/start systems as seamless as possible like tranny fluid in high pressure reserve to get gears turning again as soon as possible and engines that stop a piston or so at top dead center so just a spark pretty much gets the motor running again but, that is a lot of thought and complexity that could lead to complications and parts failures, to try and gain such a tiny amount of savings per individual.

I know that modern tires and suspension system are designed to survive thousands of pothole hits but that does not keep me from trying to avoid every single one of them.

Not true... The only way a conventional automatic like the 8 speed in all the BS are cooled is by the torque converter spinning that is being driven by the power of the engine running at idle when the auto start/stop system is turn off at say a stop light. The torque converter is the means that keeps circulating the ATF fluid to the internal pumps and out to the radiator to keep the ATF temperature below 200 degrees. However, with start/ stop is engaged at a stop the torque converter is Not spinning. At this point the cooling is being provided by an internal powered pump that is 12 volt and powered by car battery. My start/stop is permanently turned off. Now the only thing I'm worried about is how many miles will I get on my Badlands 2.0 before I need to wallnut blast the intake valves to remove all that carbon build up. I think any time after 60k would be a good bet... But I really don't care... I LOVE my BS

I agree 100%

It is amazing how fast they start... It was 12 degrees out here yesterday morning and I swear it popped off in less than 2 seconds. Only starting @ TDC really helps. Oh and for me it's the potholes and ten speedbumps I go over every day at work. Nice and easy...
My comment about the torque converted was to Mart S. As for myself I do alot of in city driving, my first tranny fluid will be about 45k and with a little luck we should be doing fine. If is we all do our due diligence with the proper maintenance (no 12k oil changes) that is.

With ya, SmokeShowJoe.

I don't normally tell peeps, but with my Wife unit driving only 12 miles total on a work day, not minding to sit in line at drive-thrus for 30 minutes or more, it's a freaking 1.5L with a TURBO, the fact that Ford specs over 5 qts and then over 6 quarts of oil for a freaking 1.5L and remote starts to warm up two times a day when cold out, oil changes come at 3K with full syn.
PS I remember when only big block V8s took 6 quarts.
