Greetings,
Just wanted to report on the overwhelmingly positive experience I had towing a small (< 1600 lbs loaded) teardrop trailer for nearly 5000 miles around the Western US with my 2024 BSBL.
MPG (as reported by the car itself) was between 18 and 19.
I really appreciated the extra security of electric trailer brakes with a Redarc brake controller installed in the BS. Did a lot of mountainous sections and never felt like the brakes were in danger of fading.
Trailer is low profile (overall height is lower than the BS) so strong crosswinds, while noticeable, were easily managed. I won't be specific, but the whole rig felt extremely stable, even at higher speeds, and passing, while obviously not as quick as without the trailer, never felt like I was in danger if I exercised appropriate restraint and waited for a good clear stretch.
On the subject of backing up, since it's a small trailer, the wheelbase is pretty short and while the advice to use small movements of the steering wheel is apt when you are initiating a turn, to get the trailer going back in the other direction requires a fair amount of cranking.
Anyway, teardrop towing was a major consideration when I bought the BS, so I'm happy to report that it passed the test with flying colors.
