“The offer sounds like a scam—a new Toyota electric-powered sport-utility vehicle for about $15,000, complete with sunroof and cup holders.
But the Toyota bZ3X is real, and it is actually on sale starting at that price. There is a catch: To buy one, you have to be in China.”

“For an American used to a $50,000 gasoline-powered SUV as the standard family choice, the Chinese market is hardly recognizable

A majority of new vehicles sold in China are either fully electric or plug-in hybrids, and a look around the recent auto show in Shanghai showed that local makers have mostly stopped introducing new gasoline-powered models

In the U.S., the traditional combustion engine still powers about eight in 10 new vehicles”

This could be a very dangerous position for American automakers. As they fall further and further behind on technology to cater to a dying ICE market.

The future is BEV. But, as Americans are slow to transition, this leaves American automakers in a bad position. Eventually, Chinese and other BEVs will be sold in the US.

How can the domestic automakers compete when this happens? They will be way behind in technology know how.

I follow electrek.co for ev. I have one as well as a jeep wrangler. The BYD cars are legit and their 1000watt charging coming up with 5 mins 250 mile range charging is game changingm. And they have small ev at $10k. WTH I’d love to own one as a daily. But of course there’s some one leading the nation who’s anti ev while the rest of the world is moving toward this new technology. Why can’t we multi task is beyond my capacity to answer.
The American consumer is anti EV.

hopefully it stays this way

the power grid can’t handle demand as it is with EV charging. At least in california where new homes have no gas plumbed to them, even with their solar panels equipped, power utilities are still asking people to set their AC units to 80f in summer months and overriding your smart thermostats if they are below that.

roads aren't meant to handle the heavier EV vehicles, neither are the barriers upon impact.

there is really no such thing as “clean
Renewable power”. wind turbines use a huge amount of oil to lubricate, only last about 10 years, and sit in landfills forever after that. Solar panels aren't much better.
Just the mining process for minerals to produce EV batteries alone rapes the earth more than oil drilling ever will. Oil is a natural renewable resource. Its not rotting dinosaurs.

if they really cared about the planet they would support more hydrogen fuel cell cars. Only emissions are water vapor

The future of automotive technology is depressing for me. Come 2030 when they want all sales to be EV i will be refining my own crude into fuel lol

Really?

Come to California. BEVs all over the place.
Now do the rest of the country.

I’m not saying that aren’t poplar in some parts of the country or amongst certain demographics, but the vast majority of Americans are not interested in an EV as they currently are.

It is kind of inconvenient to have to carry gas and a generator to charge up your EV while off roading. Until they have much better range than now, they won't work for me. I'd buy one for around town, if I had the money to burn.

I can't wait to have rolling blackouts like California has.

I'm betting that Tesla isn't lagging behind the Chinese in the EV world.

The American consumer is anti EV.
I think I am an American Consumer.

I am not anti EV, I am anti limited range and long charging times as well as strain on the electric grid. To me the bigger question is how to build out reasonable charging infrastructure, which includes where does the E part come from in the first place? Making "E", Electricity, is by no means free either.

I am amazed that the Electric Vehicle industry has not gotten together on a standard swappable battery pack, and ways to handle batteries as they age. Can you imagine if every auto maker had their own Gas Fill method so you had to use only THEIR filling stations?

Solve these, and the inflated price point, and I suspect adoption here would go up. At this point in time, especially with the limited offerings, I see no point.

That said, that BYD car that jumps over stuff, now I want one of those for sure ...:

Now the government is worried about the rubber particles coming off of the tires.

Ok so you're not anti EV, you just won't buy one. That is exactly what i meant.

I would buy one in a heart beat, if it made economical sense. At this point in time it makes no sense at all to me.

Just like I would not buy a full size Bronco, it won't fit in my garage, so doesn't suit my needs either. Has nothing to do with the type of vehicle at all.

Bless the Early Adopters, and watch how annoyed they get when you explain that mining the bits for the batteries, using petroleum products for so many of the parts, really doesn't make the environmentally friendly yet.

For me, at least, don't try to put words into my mouth, I can do that quite well myself, and if I am not understood, well, just ask! :like:

And where I live the power grid goes out once or twice a week and we lose power. Some fire depts won’t fight house fires with solar panels on roofs from what I was told. Going green is a fad to make more money. Just remember there are states getting their power from Canada cause we can’t make enough and with canadas ego and our presidents ego Canada has already once said they would turn off the power to those 4 states. And what do you do if you live in a house like mine which has 4 cars And not enough outlets to charge 4 cars, and if each manufacturer has their own type of plug
