So…..are we just going to keep getting the water pump replaced every year? Where does this end?

Even tough your bumper to bumper new warranty is over, your second and third water pump should have a 1 year warranty on them.

I’m almost 17k in and have not had to have any water pumps replaced. That sounds like a cop out from the dealer not wanting to fix an already known issue.
$1,800/year is unacceptable in my opinion.
I'm at 53k (bought it at 48k) and (knock on wood) 0 issues other that it loosing connection with my iPhone

I have 21' FE @ 45K. No water pump or RDU issues.....yet. I have taken this heavy off road. I had my alternator mudded up - had that removed and cleaned. Did the tranny service @ 30K. Regular oil changes.
WOW, I wouldn't know my Sport would have so many "break downs" if I didn't log in to this Forum once in awhile- LOL
Am I right, @Mark S. ???

Correct me if im wrong, but doesnt the FE have the 2.0? Mine is the 1.5 so that may make sense why my experience has been different than yours.... I apologize if this was taken as a low effort post. I'm just genuinely curious if those of us with the 1.5 are just going to accept replacing these components every year. Seems like class action territory to me, but maybe not since water pump issues aren't as common as I thought after reading responses here. Im just one of the unlucky select few.

I feel bad for those who've had problems with their car. Forums like this attract the unlucky ones, many of whom are simply looking for help and/or commiseration. It's important as well to understand the overwhelming majority of owners have no issues and are happy with their purchase, although that's little relief for the unlucky few.

There is no good reason to go to a dealer for maintenance once your warrantly is up. Just read the forum for a while and you'll see how many unreputable dealers are out there. At best, they overcharge. At worst, they are incompetent, or crooks.

Unless you have a long-standing relationship with yours, and you have confirmed they charge reasonable rates for labor and parts.

I drive 4000 miles a year and my warranty will be expired by then. Doesn't the warranty cover the water pump if it has been replaced previously? I would think every time they replace something the warranty on that part starts over. That's the way it should be. Anybody know if the issue with the water pump was fixed by the 2024 model?

The question you asked, I thought , was in general for the whole model. Either 1.5 or 2.0. There are other "items" not related to the engine choice that effect all models. My reply was about my own Sport experience. I looked at the MY25 offerings and disappointed to say the least. Its like FORD is forcing the 1.5L engine. You may have a case for the Lemon Law.
I just replaced my OG water pump on my 07' XC90 @ 200K for $800. FYI. Hopefully you can find a good mechanic soon.

Hopefully you changed the gear oil in the RDU. I did mine recently, wasn't low or dirty at 23k miles, but good preventative maintenance given some have reported failures.

Per my dealer, a new part has a warranty but it’s only for a year and you still have to pay diagnostic. I took my current water pump in right before warranty expired and they told me it was “an air pocket” so they refilled. But it’s low again, and now out of warranty. I’ve seen reports of 2024 models also having all the same issues as the older models. I guess my issue and question is, are we just kinda expected to keep paying to replace this part? Regardless of what the cost is, this seems excessive for a brand new car.

you still have a case for warenty replacment as the initial "issue was raised before the warenty was up. because they misdiagnosed it doesn't end the issue there.

How is the water pump not considered powertrain?
Exactly… and several owners reported their dealership covered the failed 1.5L water pump under the powertrain warranty but other owners said they had to pay. Why the inconsistency?
