Hi all. I have 2024 Bronco Sport Big Bend. When I shift into park, I sometimes hear a single beep. The tone sounds the same as the back up sensor. I do not always hear this beep when shifting into park. There is nothing behind me, so it’s not the backup sensor picking something up as I momentarily pass thru reverse while shifting into park. The owner’s manual has a note that the vehicle may make a tone when shifting into park, but it doesn’t give any details about what the tone indicates or under what conditions it occurs. I have tried all manner of experiments to see if I could figure it out, but it just seems random. It happens sometimes on inclines and sometimes on flats. It happens sometimes when I spin the selector fast and sometimes when I spin it slow. It doesn’t seem to matter how long I wait after the vehicle is stationary before I shift into park, nor how hard I press the brake peddle as I shift into park. I have spoken to Ford customer service, and they say it could indicate a problem with the vehicle. But this is not consistent with the manual. I honestly think their default is to say to take it to the dealer for anything they cannot answer. I spoke to the dealership sales department who referred me to service who doesn’t know either. I am hoping someone here will have a definitive answer.

I added a poll to see how common or uncommon this may be.

It’s most definitely not supposed to do that
Never would be my answer

maybe a door open or the tailgate open which i highly doubt so I think the dealership is right - something is wrong with the vehicle

can you please post a screenshot of the owner’s manual note that the vehicle may make a tone when shifting into park (including the section it is in)?
It is under Transmission -> Automatic Transmission -> The last note in the screenshot.

When I shift into park, I sometimes hear a single beep.
If you shut off the engine with the transmission set to the drive position it will automatically switch the transmission to the park position. Have you tried this? If so, do you still hear the beep?

Yes, I have tried that, but only a few times. I do not hear a beep when I shut the vehicle off while it is still in drive. I should also add that I always have auto-start/stop disabled.

I would be sure to tell the shop about this. I suspect there may be a sensor problem (door open, selector position, etc.). Some have had issues with the transmission selector assembly in their cars, but the reports I've read list different symptoms (inability to select a gear, odd indications on the status display, etc.). Your issue may be an indication of a problem with the switch.

Here is another blurb from the manual.

Park selection audible warning.
Sounds when you shift into (P).

This makes it sound like there should always be an audible warning. Maybe this is a new feature for MY 2024 that works most of the time? Good grief.

My 2022 Big Bend has always beeped when I put in park since I have owned it. Its been 2 years now and it always makes a beep when it goes into park. Sounds like the beep sound the touchscreen makes when making a selection

Thanks for responding. Would you mind taking the poll? I think it would be useful to see how common this is. The more I dig into it, the more I want to know exactly why it does this. I am not yet convinced that it shouldn’t be doing this.

Yup done. I had a 2021 that didn't do this but the gear selector stopped at Park and at drive. While the 2022 doesn't have a hard stop so assumed the beep is to alert it's now in park vs the hard stop the 2021 selector had

My 2022 Big Bend makes the "touchscreen beep" every time it gets shifted into Park.

Maybe there is a setting in the sync screen menus - my 2022 does not beep going into Park but I probably have some audible setting disabled
I couldn't find a specific setting other than the general "touchscreen beep" enable/disable. Cheers!

I think Post #11 explained the beep mystery - I turned off the radio on my 2022 Badlands, put it in Park and heard the beep … probably always beeped going into Park but with the radio typically on I must not have heard it.

As to why the OPs vehicle only sometimes will beep, I’ve no answer.

I have the Outer Banks model (lots and lots of bells and whistles), and I do not hear a beep when I place the vehicle in park. I always disable the auto start/stop after I start the vehicle if that matters.
