Excuse me if this is an obtuse question, but can the C-pillars be 'polished' for swirl and defect removal with a dual action polisher and the right type of pad and product, just like I can the paint and clear coat are able to? Are we talking about the same exact type of material and clear coat?

I'd like to see if I can do this, and then immdiately apply PPF

From what I've read, you don't even need to polish it out. The PPF will hide the swirl marks. Cheers!

I have polished these parts, as you described with the same materials used for polishing paint. I then applied a ceramic coating to these parts and the paint, still looks great. PPF is going to be difficult to apply, especially the C-pillar that has the little ridges near the bottom edge. Not sure you can really cover that whole thing.

Someone scratched my Bronco BS's pillar between the front and rear door (by accident). I tried Meguiers Scratchx but I used an applicator pad, and not a microfiber towel. It removed the scratch in about a minute. It probably wasn't deep. After that I sprayed Meguiers Quik Detailer on a microfiber towel. Ended up looking like new. I read on a detailer forum that Scratchx and scratch removing products like it shouldn't be applied or rubbed into the surface with a microfiber towel. The towel draws away the fluid whereas the pad keeps it on the surface of the area you are working on. Covering it up with film is probably a good idea. I think the exterior plastics on the BS are kind of robust compared to some of other Fords and recent GM products I've had.

Agreed. The pillars on my ‘22 were heavily swirl marked, PPF was applied and no visible swirl marks remained. Had all the pillars PPF’d including C-pillar (minus the small ridges) and also on rear hatch - meaning all of the black piano plastic was covered with PPF. It’s been two years now and looks like new.

I imagine everyone that got PPF, got it professionally applied? I'm prone to even leave a bubble in a decal if I"m not ULTRA careful. 😅

I cheated and bought matt black A,B,C and D pillar vinyls from Underground Graphics. They hid the swirls and minor scuffs that were there and do not show finger marks that really annoyed me. Although not recommended by them, the overlays (and distressed flag on the quarter windows) hold up just fine without any pealing going through the (brushless) car wash I use 2x a week
