I have 2021 BS BL. Only 20k miles in almost four years. No crazy use or rough treatment. Took in today for 20k service and they also performed the recall work and checked battery and confirmed no issues.
However, service tech apparently noticed that rear shocks are starting to leak. Anyone else have this issue. Seems very strange for this to happen at 20k. And it’s a $900 fix. I call bullshit. Either it’s not really a problem or they are inferior shocks.

Ford has a Service Bulletin (don’t know the #) that defines the amount of shock leakage - not enough leakage and the shock is considered good, too much leakage and the shock is bad.

Possible leaking shocks post, see the embedded links in this post to get an idea of how much leakage is normal and how much is not:

Service Bulletin / TSB: TBD

Replaced rear shocks on my ā€˜21 BSBL @30,000 (over 36 mos). One was leaking, one was ā€œseepingā€. Replaced both, but not a problem for me as I have ext warranty.

Mine are not leaking enough to require an immediate fix, but maybe at the next service. Anyway, I am over three years out, so no warranty. However, service tech said she can put in a request to Ford to see if they will chip in for some of the replacement. She called it a financial aid request and would base it on the low mileage.

That's ridiculous that any ammount of fluid loss is an acceptable ammount.

If this happened to md I would be shopping for a lift kit. And a shorter basket since it barely fits in the garage how she sits now

I had a F-150 that had a rear shock leaking and IIRC it had less than 20,000 miles on it.Ford Dealership replaced it no problems asked.

That's so weird. My work rig is a 2020 F350 dually with a 9' Service body and fully loaded. Weighs just over 11k lbs with me in it, 74k miles and never seen the front shocks have a seepage or any kind of leak.

Seems, from reading forum posts, that the one’s most likely to seep/leak on these little beasts are the rears. Not sure of the reason, but don’t think anyone’s mentioned the struts leaking.
Sure wish the shock mfgrs would come out with shocks/struts to fit these, maybe with a little more length for travel.

Well that's true. All companies can have problems. In this case, I'm more inclined to think ford is at fault since they specify what they need to bilstein and they make it to their spec. Regardless, bilstein is a better company with a much better track record than rough country. Their valving technology is also superior.

It's still only an mid level suspension compared to fox, king, icon, ohlins, elka, etc...
