Hey everyone.
First post here, but have owned a 2024 BS OB since July 2024.

This is my wife’s daily driver and so after its first oil change at 15,000km I didn’t notice the vehicle health report showed the front pads were 8mm and rear were 6mm.

She just had it at a non-Ford shop to have the summer tires put on and the mechanic noticed her rear pads were significantly worn for the age of the vehicle and measured them at 3mm. She has just hit 20,000km so this kind of wear on the rear pads seems excessive and premature.

I did some googling and saw there was a brake lining recall with earlier model years, but has anyone else experienced this kind of wear this early on the rear pads?

The dealer is going to do a brake inspection next week, but the other mechanic said that visually everything else like the calipers look to be ok.

Any experience or theories about what could be causing the premature wear (e-brake malfunction??) would be appreciated so we have some ideas to throw at the dealer next week.
Cheers

My rear pads were worn out before the fronts as well. I think the computer uses the rear breaks for stability control or torque vectoring or whatever magic they got to keep the awd stable.

What was your mileage when they were replaced?

I replaced my rear brake pads at 117,000 miles. I use adaptive cruise control with lane centering quite often.

Adaptive cruise control uses the rear brakes more to prevent the vehicle from nose diving.

The front brake pads lasted even longer. I have never owned a vehicle with brake pads lasting this long.

Thanks for sharing. I don’t think she uses adaptive cruise excessively as most of her driving is in the city. Regardless, that’s a big difference between your replacement at 117,000 miles and hers at 20,000 km (about 1200 miles)

Estimate I’ll have to change mine at about 40,000-45,000 miles, mostly city and LA traffic driving. Last service showed @8mm fronts, @6mm rears left art 30,000 miles. Dealer said change recommended at @3mm left. I’ll be replacing all at same time as I never run brakes or tires with different wear.

Thanks! Your wear seems much more typical so this helps for when we speak to the dealer.

Well, there's your answer right there! :p

(My wife's driving habits cost me new rear pads and rotors turned at 8,000 miles...)

it 1 year for pads 3 for rotors and they said they turn/resurface the old rotors??? I didnt know they still did that
Very much still a thing. Based on the initial rotor thickness and amount of material needing removal, resurfacing can be safely and cost-effectively done more than once.

I remember we did it at one time but the machining and labor costs were more than a set of rotors??
