Camping this weekend on East Lake, next to Paulina Lake in the caldera of the Newberry National Volcanic Monument in Central Oregon. We’ll be right in the obsidian sand on the shore. It’s a magical place. More photos to come but first I’ve got to squeeze all of this into Squatchy 🫈👣. Maybe the espresso machine is overkill?

Good thing my wife isn’t coming this trip. It fit but it’s a tight squeeze 😳. I wouldn’t want a bigger vehicle but may be adding a trailer basket in the future. Just for perspective there’s a 12’ folding kayak, 200 watts of solar panels and yes and espresso maker in there.

It's a great place. I camped there many years ago. Glad you have the expresso maker! Post some pics so all can see the beauty. Alan @ Beaverton

Just got back last night. It’s a magical spot. The lake is at 6400’ inside the caldera of an extinct volcano. It was really cold the first night just above freezing, nice and warm during the day and clear as a bell. the water was still chilly, about 53 degrees F.

I spent most of the days kayaking the lake and made it out every morning to catch the sunrise and was pretty much the only one on the whole lake that early.

Watching Bald Eagles 🦅 and Osprey soar over the lake on the 4th was better than any fireworks display.

Paulina Lake and East Lake From Paulina Peak. about 8000' at the peak.
It was so clear you could see Mt St Helens all the way in Washington!

From the Peak with Bachelor and sisters mountains near Bend in the BG. Squatchy was once again a champ and did everything I needed.
