Hey everyone, just did the first oil change on my Big Bend. When I removed the oil drain plug it did not have any metal shavings on it. I thought that was very curious as I expected a lot of shavings from the break-in. As far as I can tell it’s not magnetized. Has anyone else noticed this? I am going to probably replace it with a magnetic drain plug in the future.

I would imagine that since the engine is almost all aluminum other than the rotating mass, there is no need for a magnetic drain plug. I’ve worked on various Fords for years in a fleet and there hasn’t been a magnetic drain plug in quite some time. Well I take that back...the diesel pickups have magnetic plugs, but there are considerably more steel components in the engine.

I can't remember any of my past four or five Fords having a magnetic drain plug. I will be changing my oil and filter at 1.200 miles though if not for anything more than getting rid of the shorty filter that it comes with from the factory.
