Now Recalls to Fix Prior Recalls Repaired Incorrectly

There are two new recalls for Ford vehicles to fix previous recalls that were repaired incorrectly. This one may apply to my 2017 F150. This has become more than tiresome Ford.

I'll gladly take the voluntary recalls from Ford any day over companies like GM, GMC, Toyota, KIA, Hyundai blaming the customer for problems they needed own in the first place. How is GM going to replace 721,000 motors?

Recalls aren’t voluntary, they are mandatory when a defect affecting safety is identified. I guess Ford might self identify a few, but they normally come about when enough similar incidents are reported to the NHTSA.

A second recall on a 9 year old truck for the same issue is just bad engineering. The other second recall is on 2018 F150s.

Yes there are 2 different types of recalls Safety and Non-Safety. There is kind of third recall as well and that is when the NHTSA has to force a manfacture to permorm a recall and this usually comes with a hefty fine. But all-in-all it falls under the first type.

Safety Recall = By law, manufacturers must notify (or volunteer the information to) the NHTSA within five business days of discovering a safety defect or noncompliance. Fines are issued if an automaker delays reporting an issue. (Notice the NHTSA isn't discovering the issue, Ford is discovering the issue, volunteering the information and providing a resolution.)

Non-Safety Recall = Addresses mechanical, cosmetic, or performance defects that do not pose a direct risk of injury or death. These are generally voluntary and handled via Customer Satisfaction Notifications (CSNs), Warranty Extensions, or Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs)

Not one recall (either type) has ever cost me a dime out of my own pocket. In fact Ford has been willing to come to my home and fix some of them as well!

The last gauge cluster recall on the Bronco Sport had only 12 known reported cases of the 230,000 produced in 2025-2026. That is 0.0052173913% of the Bronco Sports produced.

This is a example of bad engineering:
Chrysler\Fiat\Stellantis have a plastic oil cooler that cracks and drains oil over the entire 3.6L motor. This is a known issue since 2011 and still being used in production today. Guess what, MILLIONS of reports to the NHTSA still no recall. Stellantis says it's a "wear and tear" problem and NOT a defect. The sad part is aftermarket companies make an all aluminum cooler that resolves the issue completely. This is bad engineering and neglect to fix a known problem.

These are not recalls. You are conflating different remedies with a NHTSA recall which is what I am talking about. It's also what is being counted when we say Ford had a record number of recalls last year and is in the lead again this year. Ford isn't voluntarily extending warranties, initiating CSNs or TSBs out of the goodness of their heart.

Any fix Ford does regarding recall is always covered under its own extended warranty. (Of course Ford (or any other automotive manufacture.) isn't going to give you a extended warranty to cover the rest of the vehicle for a shift position indicator going blank on the screen.)

There is an easy solution for all your woes, simply trade in all your Fords for another brand. From that point on you don't need to worry about any Ford recalls.

My neighbors Toyota Tacoma had a safety recall for the gas pedal getting caught on the floor mat. Toyota fixed it by sawing off a 1/3 off the bottom of gas pedal. They didn't even de-bur the rough edge.

27% of Ford's 2025 recalls (42 orders) were to fix vehicles that had been "incorrectly" repaired via one or more previous recalls. That's a trend that seems to have carried over into 2026, unfortunately. They'll likely recall more units than last year as well, although likely with fewer overall recall orders.
