I've seen a lot of mentions of defunct auto stop-start. Most folks are happy about it, but it may be a sign of another issue.
Recall letters are supposed to go out in May for 24V-267. Has to do with incorrect evaluation of battery state-of-charge. An undetected low battery is obviously bad, but a good state of charge may be underestimated too (I assume).

My Auto SS hasn't been working for a while. Flipped to the ASS menu, it says inactivated due to battery charging. I also sometimes get a message at key-on to shut off the car to conserve battery.

So the Bronc is in the shop today for evaluation... no idea if there's a TSB for this or whether they can do the required recal prior to the recall actually going out. We'll see!

When my auto start stop wasn't working it was one of the electrical issues I was having due to the original battery. My battery was replaced under warranty and I have not had any electrical issues since. The auto start stop works so well it's basically transparent, I sometimes have to look at the tach to see that the motor shut off, lol.

FYI: My Ford dealer found no issue with battery or charging system. They recharged the battery and the Auto StartStop works again. They feel that I just need to drive more to keep the battery charged up.
But yes, mileage is low and the vehicle is not driven a lot... but this issue existed even after going on long freeway trips of several hours.
I will wait for the recall!

This is the reason I believe most people who got new batteries didn't really need them. Driving it more won't help if the charging system is not accurately measuring battery voltage and adjusting alternator output to suit.

I was searching back to see if there was a thread discussing auto stop/start and found this one.
My Au/St/St is no longer working but I do mostly short drives, usually around 10mi/15min at a time.
When I next get a day off, I’ll take it out for a longer spin and see if it comes back.

I was having no auto start stop and battery saver mode warnings constantly (I drive 30 min round trip for work) and after installing this I’ve had zero issues at all. I plug it in every night. To some that might be a serious inconvenience but it hasn’t been a big deal for me luckily.

You may want to consider a trickle charger if you aren't driving a lot and the car sits for days, especially if you live in a cold season climate. I started using a trickle charger in the winter time when COVID lockdowns hit and my driving habits changed (mall and gym closures). Instead of daily drives, I was only driving every 3 days or more, and those were usually shorter drives of about 4 miles each way - not good for the battery.
In the summertime, I make sure to make a "Sunday drive" once a week, a longer trip of 20-30 miles or more and do some shopping farther from home. Being retired now, my Sunday Drives" don't always happen on a Sunday.
About the term, "Sunday Drives:" Back in the 60's, Mom and Dad and Grandma and us 5 kids, would load up in the car and go to a mall about 20 or more miles away, or just take a drive out of the Chicago near suburbs. The highlight of those Sunday drives was a stop for frozen custard (soft serve ice cream), or a special treat of burgers and shakes at McDonalds'. That was back when there was no sit-down McDonald's. Dad would stand in line at the window, order our food, and when the order was ready, Dad would whistle for us kids to go and help him carry it all back to the car. We ate in the car, as they didn't even have outdoor dining tables back then.
Those were the Good 'Ol Days1

Maybe if the Ford patent gets approved and they begin to listen to our conversations and advertisement pop ups, we can all rant while driving about the start/stop feature, the failing water pumps, the squealing whale moaning brakes, the missing engine cover, the missing under dash cover, the failing shift dial, my battery does not charge, my lack of getting an appointment to get this stuff fixed, my dog running away, and the fact that my college football team stinks this year.

They will quickly realize that they failed on yet another great idea once again, and move on to someone else, or another feature that can fail and we all can gripe about.

I get the humor, but I'm gonna have to say that it (in my opinion) is not a gray line between "the missing under dash cover" and "the failing shift dial". I'm not sure what exact shift dial issue you're referring to, but an inability to shift the vehicle properly that isn't operator error severely increases the chance of an accident and the possibility of injury or death.

In terms of the battery, I've personally experienced aberrant charging behavior. I spent 30 minutes with the engine on, car idling, in ~55 degree weather getting my dashcam wired up, and I lost voltage. My Sync 3 radio went off about 20 minutes in to "preserve battery" (even though the engine was on, auto stop/start was off, and the radio was actively playing on FM). After the battery BCM/PCM recall was done, I also had my voltage dipping below 12V while the alternator was running and was actively driving (thankfully that resolved about 50 miles into that drive).

Point being, leaving the shifter issue aside, there is a problem with the battery charging behavior in these vehicles, or at least there has been (maybe the BCM/PCM recalls have fixed this going forward, except for people who have enhanced flooded batteries that have already been damaged/lost capacity due to the pre-recall bad charging behavior). And while a battery tender is a nice option, not everyone has one, and we shouldn't need to go on 30 mile pleasure cruise drives once a week just to keep the battery adequately charged if we don't drive 3+ days a week...

To those of you who use a tender, by all means, it's a good way to maintain battery longevity and health if it's an option for you. But it should not be necessary. When I talk about the battery charging behavior of this vehicle, other drivers are in disbelief.
