New AT3W Falkens on

I really like the stock tires and the way the car performs. So after 47,000 miles on the originals, I went to @Discount Tire and got 4 new AT3W OE tires installed before they are gone forever. Paid $725 including tires, installation and about $20 in disposal fees. (no tax in Oregon, sorry other states). Drives great and turns easy. Really pleased to have the new set.

The only major difference is this odd and honestly, kinda ugly groove around the whole tire. At first I thought they were installed inside-out but both sides have the groove. I guess a change by Falken to the tires? Maybe a different rubber compound for the treads portion? They're new, not re-treads. Well, curious if anyone knows something. Hope they last about the same as original ones; if so, reporting back in another 5 years, lol.

I think you're right. I just need to put a few miles on them. Thanks for the compare photo.
Here's the oldest pic I could find of mine. It's so old, I didn't even take it home yet. The groove is there, but it doesn't stand out as much as the new one that is so glossy.

Do you know what the date code is on the tires?

I don't see any obvious set of numbers that indicate the date code on them. The 001199 2012 I found doesn't make sense for that.

Not sure if it's required on both sides of the tire. Could be on the back side.

The 4 digit number is there somewhere.

According to Google, citing Falken, this is the date code. I don't know how to interpret it though.

I believe that tire was built in the 12th week of 2026, based on the date code shown.
